Today I was revising instructions that I send to my Virtual Assistant, when I thought to myself, “this might be helpful for other people who want to use a VA.” So, I decided to turn my instructions into a blog post so that others can do the same. I outline a handful of tools to source lists of companies, crack email addresses, and perform general research. This blog is actual instructions I send to my VA to do research and lead generation. Enjoy :)

Get someone else to do the monotonous tedium of research and emails!

I have one interview question that seems to filter people out better than anything I’ve ever tried.

It’s an absurd question, one that will catch you off-guard and get you to scratch your head, BUT, I guarantee this question will tell me if you’re a good fit for what I’m looking for.

It’s not so much of a question as it is a request. One that flexes all the creative muscles of the mind simultaneously. One that challenges even the best of thinkers.

What is this question/request?

“I’m going to give you a random word and you’re going to create a freestyle rap for me…ready?!”

Why do I want to know if you can freestyle?

How you respond to a question like this will tell me a lot about how you respond to something you’ve never tried before. It shows me the type of problem solver that you are. I don’t care if you can freestyle, but I do care about your default reaction when a challenge comes your way. I don’t care if your “freestyle” is “uuuuhhhhhhhh blue. you! two! I like to wear shoes!” — what I care is that you tried to make an attempt. You put your best effort forward in a moment where you were vulnerable and could fail miserably. I respect that.

The first time I remember discovering a passion was juggling. I sat in my house for weeks on end teaching myself how to juggle with sock balls. Then during the Bar Mitzvah season when I was thirteen it was breakdancing and raving with glow sticks. Then when I was 15 I discovered hackysack and the sport of “footbag” (yes, it’s a real sport). Most recently? It’s meditation. I’ve always had a tendency to lose myself in a random activity that I loved, regardless of if any of my friends enjoyed it. I’ve always thoroughly enjoyed this passion discovery process. Here are my tips to help you do the same.

We’ve heard it time and time again; employers value international experience in a candidate – But where are the facts to back it up? Nearly every study, intern, and work abroad website informs the reader that experience abroad is great for both personal and professional development, yet these arti...

Move somewhere new for at least one year. Not 3 months not 6 months, I’m asking you to move somewhere for at least one year. Why do I say this? Because the only way to truly immerse yourself in a new culture is to really dive deep for an extended period of time. There is something so special about moving to a country for a long time period and diving deep into the language, the culture, the history, the tradition, the food(!) and really getting a thorough understanding of every single aspect of that country.

A brief interview later, and I was the second employee at Shesh’s startup that was yet to be launched – ‘Bhive Workspace’, which blossomed into the largest coworking space in Bangalore within only a few months of its inception. After a few months at the ‘Hive, Shesh offered me a better position in the company along with employee stock options and a bigger paycheck. I took the offer and quit juggling between two jobs.
