After a bit of a break, I'm so excited to be back and sharing new work with you all. I wanted to start with a piece that's very close to my heart.
This painting was inspired by Red Eagle Mountain, a sacred peak in Glacier National Park. For a time, I lived and worked in the park, and I was lucky enough to see this mountain from across St. Mary Lake every day. From that perspective, its profile looks just like an eagle in mid-flight which is exactly what I saw and what sparked the idea for this piece.
The name itself comes from a powerful Blackfeet story. Legend has it that a Blackfeet chief named Red Eagle prayed to the Sun for the well-being of his nephew, and his prayers were answered. In honor of this spiritual act and the Blackfeet's reverence for the Sun, the mountain was named after him. The mountain is considered sacred by the Blackfeet people and is associated with vision quests.
I wanted to capture the feeling of a soaring eagle with a touch of surrealism. In my painting, I imagined the mountain being visited by a celestial entity, illuminating the spirit of the eagle within, while a lone rider happens to witness this magical moment from the shore. This piece is a reminder of the beautiful stories, sacred places, and the powerful moments that inspire me.
For this project, I really focused on using color to create a specific atmosphere you can feel. I used gradients to add life to the piece, because the smallest change in color temperature can bring a sense of warmth and depth that feels truly magical. I created this on my iPad using Adobe Fresco.
I'm officially open for new projects and collaborations! If you're a small business or an individual looking for custom art or design work, please send me a message. I'd love to help bring your vision to life! :)
