Agua Viva International goes into remote communities where no government or water charity is showing up, builds a friendship first, and then puts in a water purification and bottling system that the community owns and runs themselves. When they leave, those families have clean drinking water for good.

The part I love most is what it does for the women and girls. In a lot of these villages they are the ones walking for water, hours every single day. Agua Viva gives them about 5 of those hours back to work, take care of their families, and go to school. The bottling systems also turn into small businesses that the women run. School attendance goes up 50% when kids are drinking clean water. So far that's 72,000 people in 5 countries.

Next year they want to reach 8 more communities, and that takes $160,000.

Their gala, Starlight Reflections, is November 12 at Fiorella's Event Space in Overland Park. Abby Eden is the emcee for the this amazing event. There's a live and silent auction, a b**r pull, and an artist painting the Western Auto sign right there in the room before it goes up for auction. Nathan Hall and Lefty Media Co are donating a full website build to the auction, and I would love to see a bunch of KC folks join us.
