Rails: A Hidden Gem at the Depot
Tucked away at the corner of Clay St and Schreiner St, Rails a Cafe at the Depot serves up charm, history, and some seriously impressive food.
🍽️ What to Eat
The burrata prosciutto salad was the perfect balance—sweet strawberries, creamy avocado, and a tangy raspberry vinaigrette. Try the tortilla-crusted tilapia, which had a golden crunch and fresh flavor. If you’re a red meat fan, anything with the beef tenderloin is *chef’s kiss*. And the chicken alfredo? The artichokes take it to another level.
Their rotating dessert tray is hard to resist—especially the award-winning piña colada cake (a 9-year champion!) and a gluten-free option, often a key lime pie with almond crust.
Try the tropical jasmine tea if you want something refreshing without the sugar. They also have a solid beer and wine list—don’t miss the prickly pear mimosa.
🛋️ Vibe Check
Rails is cozy and refined, filled with vintage train depot memorabilia. Whether you’re on a date, catching up with a friend, or treating yourself, it feels special but not stuffy.
💡 Know Before You Go
• The parking lot is crushed granite and some spots are uneven—try parking near The Sweeter Side of Rails instead, on the other side of the Events Hall.
• The ladies’ room is quirky with the toilet angled at 45°. It is not accessible for wheelchairs or changing tables.
• Outdoor seating is available—look for spots near a fan or in the shade to avoid the flies.
• Expect to spend $20–$40 per person without alcohol.
🎯 Final Thoughts
Rails may not have a social media presence, but it clearly doesn’t need one. There is something for everyone—sweet, savory, healthy, or indulgent.
