The actual business isn’t the hard part. It’s that every time you solve one problem, entrepreneurship hands you three entirely new skillsets you now apparently need to learn.

Suddenly, you’re a professional thing-doer expected to become a marketer, copywriter, web designer, content creator, and part-time IT department. It’s like having to learn whole other languages, skillsets, and somehow still have the time + energy to execute it all while doing your actual thing.

Or… here’s where our worlds could collide.

hiya 👋 I’m someone who spent yearssss as the go-between for a highly audacious, big-vision founder and the creative team required to make the dream a reality.

And now Growco Lab exists to do the same for you.

I’ve realized over a decade of this that most founders don’t have a problem with their vision or talking about their expertise. They have a problem translating it into the real world where there are 27 moving parts and the game changes every 6 months.

So I’ve learned to speak a lot of languages (metaphorically), fluently working between messaging dev, branding, websites, shoots, podcasting, design projects, experience design, and the occasional “why isn’t this thing working?” tech rabbit hole… and I built the business to help connect the dots between them so my clients don’t have to.

Some days I’m behind a camera. A lot of days I’m behind a laptop. My favorite days are spent with a latte, good natural light, and in the brain of some brilliant and audacious biz owner, helping pull out all the pieces that make their business rad and translating them into something the right people can immediately understand.

Zoomed out, everything we do follows a natural journey.

You have something worth sharing. → You need a better way to explain it. → You need a place for people to find it. → You need it to look and feel aligned. → And you need people to experience it.

That’s my whole biz in a nutshell. With an amazing team to help bring it home.

Saw the small biz marketing round up version of this post from and knew I had to tag in!!

Maybe it’s the dozen or so conversations I’ve had this week alone that circle some of these or it’s that Friday feeling but I’m feeling a bit spicy around some of these 🌶️🌶️

Messaging clarity makes every single part of marketing your business and making the most of your efforts easier, lighter, more sustainable, and more effective.

Some of these have layers that are true which is why they’re so sticky but I simply will not let you spin your wheels on the 80% that’s not a full truth and is keeping you stalling, overexplaining, underselling, and underpositioned.

You’re way too brilliant for that. 🧃🤌

Is there one of these I should unpack more?!

Messaging → Creative → Presence
Every. Single. Time.

This goes out to because ever since she styled me on set for my last branding shoot I’ve been challenging myself to find little fun combos in my closet thinking “what would Anna do” and for a message on differentiation I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to demonstrate 🫡

Your brand should be the embodiment of your message. Your content should be the vessel for your message. Your presence is the collective effort of your message, compounding over time.

If you aren’t clear on your messaging you are defaulting to the textbook way: guess, try things, get data, see what works, see what lit your money on fire, repeat.

There is a better way. It’s called messaging-first.

I walked into the coffee shop on some late afternoon while take a quick fresh-air-and-sunshine break around the corner from my co-working place.

Something struck me. I paused. Scanned.

“Has that espresso machine always been yellow or is that new?”

The barista: “Why, yes, actually they just put it in, ha! Thats so funny - you’re the only person all day who’s noticed that.”

It’s bright yellow, but that’s not why something in my brain just lit up when I saw it. It was like it was beacon. Something was different.

Tomorrow I’m giving a workshop to a group of business owners that has a lot to do with differentiation. Marketing Outside the Box - 3 strategies to zig while everyone else zags.

And I’m pumped. Because it’s smack at the epicenter of the work that I do: differentiating brands to stand out and become a clear right choice for the right people in their market.

So one thing about my brain is it’s kind of a bloodhound for pattern recognition. What that means is when working with clients on messaging and positioning — getting in their zone of genius about their business, excavating their own personal gold — it’s like the patterns light up. The patterns that exist within their business, the patterns that exist in their competitive landscape, and **also** seeing the gaps the patterns expose. The opportunities and edge that they uniquely have, the spaces that they alone can take up.

What makes their work unique, different, interesting…meaningful.

And I latch down on it like a bright yellow espresso machine in a coffee shop.

It is so clear that then we begin to build a whole strategy and ecosystem around it all so that they can differentiate themselves from everyone in their market. And not just in a way that is so simplistically contrarian for sake of being different or just forcing an angle that isn’t there.

It’s because it’s built upon how they’re authentic to who they really are.

because the three things that we’re going to talk about marks the beginning of what really unlocks the version of the business says unmistakably yours and unmistakable to the people who need you most. 🐝
