🌴 Concept Piece 🥥
This image, which I hope to make into a series, explores how, despite the many changes and external influences we've experienced as a society, the Fa'asamoa remains ever-present.
In this piece, I wanted to juxtapose the traditional with the modern by portraying someone with a tatau holding a golf club and towel giving the aura and impression of a matai, holding his fue and to'oto'o. The goal was to capture the coexistence of modern activities, like golfing, with elements deeply rooted in Samoan culture—in this case, the tatau and Chiefly stature.
This concept seeks to highlight the resilience of our culture, emphasizing that beneath it all, our traditions endure, preserved and perpetuated for future generations.
A special thank you to my friend Washington for taking the time to pose for this project.
