Run Your Life Company is officially 1 year old!

I honestly can’t believe it. 🥹

One year ago, I started this business after the rug was completely ripped out from under me. Just one month after Ben and I moved in together—blending our family of six kids and two dogs, moving to a new city, and starting over—I suddenly found myself without a job.

I knew I had the skills and the experience to build a business. But knowing that and actually taking the leap were two very different things.

Because if it failed… it was on me.

That felt incredibly heavy.

I can’t even count how many times I broke down in those first few months thinking, “What did I get myself into?”

Then, just a couple of months in, my health took a turn — symptoms that would lead to a Hashimoto’s disease diagnosis nearly five months later.

There were a lot of moments when it would have been easier to stop.

But I didn’t.

I kept showing up.
I kept learning.
I kept getting referrals.
I kept growing.
I kept expanding our services.

I’m not someone who loves attention or recognition. I’m usually the person quietly working behind the scenes.

But today…

I’m really proud of myself.

And none of this would have been possible without the incredible people who trusted me. Whether we worked together on one project, you’ve been a long-term client, or you’ve referred someone my way — thank you for trusting me with your business, your ideas, and your goals. It’s a privilege I never take for granted. ❤️

To say I couldn’t have done this without Ben is an understatement. He carried us while I got this business off the ground, made sure I had everything I needed to get started, and reminded me to keep going even on the days I was convinced I couldn’t. Ben — thank you for believing in me when I couldn’t believe in myself, and for giving me space to grow, not just as a business owner but as a person too. 💚

Here’s to one year of building something that aligns with my values, serves incredible people, and reminds me that the hardest seasons can become the foundation for something better than you ever imagined.

Happy Birthday, Run Your Life Company. 🫶🏻

We took our August plunge to the waterfalls today.

There’s something special about welcoming a new month this way. A fresh start. A chance to reset, set intentions, and remember what matters most.

Six kids, a beautiful hike & freezing water. These simple moments are some of our favorite traditions. 💚

San Francisco… you were so good to us. 🌉

We had so much fun exploring the city, walking soooo many miles… and oh yeah, we also ran a half marathon while we were there. 😅

If you’re planning a trip to San Francisco, here are a few of our favorite things we did:

- Visited Yerba Buena Gardens & the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial
- Had Irish coffees at Buena Vista (mine was non-alcoholic and still delicious!)
- Wandered through Chinatown
- Explored Fisherman’s Wharf
- Rode the Ferris wheel
- Grabbed breakfast at Bella Café
- Spent the afternoon at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA)
- Cheered on the Giants at a baseball game
- Took our first ride in a Waymo 🤖
- Rode the iconic cable car
- Walked down the famous Lombard Street
- Ate ice cream at Norman’s Ice Cream & Freezes
- Ran the The San Francisco Marathon
- Celebratory dinner at Ula—an absolutely drool-worthy Mediterranean seafood and tapas spot. 🤤

Running across the Golden Gate Bridge was one of the half marathons I had been looking forward to most on my 50-state journey, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. It was iconic, unforgettable, and a race I’ll never forget.

And because every good adventure needs a plot twist… we somehow missed our flight home. 😂 We were even at the airport more than two hours early! Huge shoutout to the Alaska Airlines team, who got us rebooked on another flight almost immediately. Crisis averted. 🙌

Already dreaming about our next adventure — possibly Dallas in December. 👀

I first heard about Ula from the book People We Meet on Vacation (though I think it’s called something else in the book) — and when we planned our San Francisco trip, it went straight on the must-do list. It did not disappoint.

The food was spectacular, the decor was gorgeous, and the staff made us feel so taken care of. If you’re heading to SF, put this one on your list. Ula Seafood & Tapas Bar Ben

Day one of San Francisco — and our legs are toast! So much walking and exploring the city. We picked up our race day packets — woot woot! We saw some iconic things and some random things — all equally appreciated! Ben The San Francisco Marathon

Martini Brunch is giving cozy, chill, and zero children yelling over your mimosa (as parents, this is a five-star amenity, not a bonus). The food was so fresh and flavorful I’d genuinely French it 💋 (if that were socially acceptable). Solid gluten-free options too, so nobody’s left out of the good stuff.

And can we talk about their non-alcoholic Bloody Mary? Better than most regular ones I’ve had.

Staff had that effortless warm energy — the kind that makes a place actually feel like a hangout instead of a transaction.

If you’re local and need a grown-up morning, this is your sign. 🥂

We’re going to run The San Francisco Marathon this weekend! 🏃‍♀️ This is a bucket list half marathon for sure! We can’t wait to run across the Golden Gate Bridge! Eek!

Dear algorithm…

I know you’re mysterious and all… but if you could send more of these humans my way, I’d appreciate it. 😂

The older I get, the less interested I am in trying to fit into every room.

I’m much more interested in finding spaces and people that feel true.

If you’re reading this thinking, “Finally… my kind of people,” welcome. I’m glad you’re here. 🤗

And if you’re a business owner teetering on the edge of burnout — I see you, and I’ve got you. Systems, marketing, organization… let’s talk. 🫶🏻

Don’t mind me… this was me immediately after this morning’s 16-mile bike ride because RIP my legs. 🪦 🤣

For half marathon training today, we decided to swap running for biking. And since I hadn’t been on a real bike ride in 15+ years, I confidently thought, “How hard could it be?”

Turns out… pretty hard. 😂

Around mile 14, I was convinced my quads were planning a mutiny, and I was about to burst into tears on the side of the trail. But I kept pedaling.

Did it hurt? Yep.
Was it humbling? Absolutely.
Did I finish anyway? You bet.

Two weeks until the San Francisco Half Marathon, and while I don’t feel perfectly prepared, I do feel determined. At the end of the day, showing up and giving your best is all you can ask of yourself—and today, that’s exactly what I did (with the emotional support from Ben McKinlay along the way). 💚
