I’ve dedicated my (free) Grief Recovery Program to my mom who is dying of ALS (a terminal condition aka Lou Gehrig’s disease)

Right after the Maui fires last August, I recorded a video (click like above to watch) because I felt compelled to help people who I knew would be grieving for a long time. And then I realized there were so many others grieving for various reason that I needed to create something more than just that one video.

👚👛👙💄👠🎀💗Barbie is having a comeback moment! The Mattel Corporate headquarters is our neighbor down the street. And with 2023’s top-grossing film of the year (1.4 billion), Barbie was the theme for the El Segundo High School Coronation Dance. Our freshman son Wyatt wore a Barbie pink tie, looking sharp with his crew. Aaron’s dad helped Wyatt and Cam get spiffed up tor the evening.

The Barbie Movie-
Here’s why I think the movie is a hit: Besides the amazing visual entertainment of costumes and sets, the storyline addresses the feelings that are relatable to women and men about their male and female roles. It touches on the impossible pressures society puts on women to be everything all at once. And it also brings to light what I’ve been writing about in a manuscript how men are feeling like “Ken” emotionally. In the movie Ken’s inner worth is measured by Barbie’s gaze and he is not feeling that the powerful masculine fits into Barbie’s world. Ken wears a sweatshirt that says “I’m Kenough” (like women’s self-empowering phrase “I’m Enough”). But Ken feels kicked to the curb no matter how hard he tries to please Barbie and look like a cool dude.

In men’s emotional landscape in today’s relationships, it is similar to Ken in the movie. And now I am feeling that society is ready for the manuscript I’ve written where in the past when tested, not well received. At the time (2017), women were all about achieving everything, and now they are realizing they are tired and just want to be themselves, just like ordinary Barbie or “weird Barbie” or your choice of professional Barbie. And that is enough.
Thanks Mattel and Barbie scriptwriters for bringing this tough to talk about subject to light in such an entertaining yet poignant way. 🎥🎞🎬👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🍿Yes! Worth watching 👍

🏝️🌅View from Lanai toward Lahaina last night
There is beauty in all things, even grief and sorrow. As an island community, we are in process of grief.
Just a step away, a shift in how we are looking at something can help us to process more peacefully while embracing the hurt, anguish, pain and sorrow to transform into enriching the soul.

I’m thinking about how I can help anyone feeling stuck or overcome with grief. DM me if you are looking for a way to make your process more peaceful. In late Sept, early October I may offer a program to help you.

😅I survived Sepsis over Thanksgiving week
⚠️I’m sharing this experience because this was a life-threatening incident that could have totally been avoided if I knew the warning signs.

➡️I had Sepsis which is a life-threatening complication of an infection. The bacterial infection spread quickly— went from a urinary tract infection to my kidneys and then the immune response sent chemicals into my bloodstream. At that point, the bacteria had been eating away at my kidney tissue (could result in organ failure)and that immune response affected my entire system. My lymphatic system and heart were pumping harder trying to clean and clear the bacteria. Fever, chills, shooting pains in stomach, armpits and a tender bruise feeling breastbone were signs of a very advanced systemic blood infection. Without treatment, the body cannot work fast enough against the quickly proliferation of bacteria, and at my stage it would be possible within 48 hours to die of sepsis. My body systems went through a lot of trauma, so I won’t bounce back like if I am done with a cold or virus which is so surprising to me somehow. It’s like getting into your electric car and after just a short time of driving, your battery is almost out of juice. So I didn’t realize I have limited amounts of energy. I am needing to prioritize the most important things in life and do those, nothing extra. (Maybe a silver lining?!!)
✅Some things I now know:
➡️When you get UTI, take care of it immediately. If I took D-Mannose supplement powder right away, I wouldn’t know what Sepsis even is.
➡️ If your kidneys start aching, get to a medical professional who can advise and treat you.
➡️If you progress to chills and fever, shooting pains in armpits, a bruising feeling in the sternum and feeling weak, it’s really far gone.
‼️And I totally lost my appetite! I did not eat any food only liquids for about a week (and you know me & food so this was crazy that I didn’t want to eat At All!) I slowly introduced watery lentil soup into my diet. After 11 days I got a craving to eat again, but have to be careful about not taxing my kidneys with the wrong foods. (I lost weight. Silver lining??)

🍽😋Santa Monica, Montana Ave R+D Kitchen
Had lunch with one of my bestest friends in the whole world. One of the true loves of my life, Josh Mankiewicz who will be part of my soul forever. 10 years together of so much fun, love and laughter, and then I decided to pursue a life with kids, a different relationship dynamic and explore the more adventurous side of myself. Once I love, I can’t unlove. But our love has evolved into a bond like a tight-knit family.
So since I almost died of sepsis, and I hadn’t seen him this whole time we’ve moved back to LA, I called him up and said, “I‘ve been here 6 months, haven’t seen you and I almost died, so we must have lunch!” And it was like no time had gone by with my best friend as we had a fantastic lunch at R+D Kitchen.

I think our society has a limited way of looking at love and relationships. There is not one model that we should all aspire to emulate. And marriage is a choice of what adventure you choose to live. So in my way of seeing things, each of us needs to be sure to know what aspects in life we absolutely need to feel we are living a fulfilled life and then find those things within yourself and choose a partner who will be able to support you in the pursuit of those things and the way you go about achieving them. Being true to yourself while supporting the things your spouse pursues seems to be the best formula for a marriage that feels satisfying and fulfilling.

The Food: In short- incredibly perfect.
Ok, so when you look at the menu, it’s pretty limited with just a handful of entrée choices, nothing earth-shattering. But the thing is, when you get something as ordinary as pan seared salmon and steamed broccoli and then it makes you say, “Wow!”, it’s the quality ingredients and chef preparation technique that makes it a wow dish. Such a winner of a restaurant for the food as well as the clubby-darkwood-baseball leather colors, 2-person to a banquette atmosphere.
I can imagine it’s a great vibe at night around the bar as well.

I love how in LA, you have so many choices of where you can take a meeting, get remote work done, eat lunch and grab healthful groceries to bring home all in one.
I’ve suddenly become a life coach/love coach, meeting clients by happenstance and having amazing success in transforming lives for men and women. I don’t know if this will just be a side thing or what. I’ve studied people (relationships, happiness, success) since in my 20’s as a hairstylist for men & women, as a TV news producer & reporter interviewing people from all walks of life (from Hollywood celebs to academic experts, industry leaders, to people in tragic situations. And produced shows on love, attraction, dating & sexuality for Discovery Channel, Lifetime TV & USA Networks. ) I notice patterns in where people get stuck in their lives, and it’s not that hard to get to the root of the issue. It’s a rewarding feeling to help people to understand themselves more deeply and then be able to move forward with their desires in life.
One of my latest success stories has been working with a woman to find the right man for a solid marriage. Of course it’s a lot of inner work and paradigm shifting. And she has been diligent in doing the homework action steps to make major shifts. And in 6 months, she has met her soon to be husband. They plan to marry in June. So I’m relaunching my old course — Find Your Soul Husband ~ the man just right for your soul. It’s a method I came up for myself to find the right partner and create a solid marriage. And as you know, our marriage has been a happy one, going on 16 years now.
I’m still feeling like my work is supposed to be in media, so I’ll see how I’ll manage to do both.
Life works in amazing ways when you’re open to what comes to you. 🙌✨

Work Life Now: 💎✨This is my amazing team of totally high level people who not only excell at their job, but excell in life. (Each of them are consciously maximizing their potential, living their best life)
I spent 4.5 immersive days with them at an Airbnb in Austin, Texas. They meet in person only once, maybe twice a year, so I was lucky to join the team for this WOW experience. Just scroll thru this 7 min video I made for the team for memories sake; you will see a very physically skilled , competitive, fun-loving bunch. We spent the time co-creating company vision & goals but mostly played around and were fed delicious food. Team Games, Top Golf, and a day on the lake we’re so much fun. I talked with every single person on the team to get to know them. Each one is solid. As you can see, the company leaders reward and acknowledge the great work of each team member. It feels more like a supportive family with super high aspirations that they set and achieve. Inspirational on so many levels.
What am I doing for them? I’m Head of Social Media Content which is anything the public experiences via social media about the company, so that involves branding, marketing, strategy, creating visibility, authority, producing video content , producing podcast content, content within the Thought-Leader community of clients. It’s been a heavy workload ramping things up with their first dive into “organic content” (meaning 1st time on social media besides paid ads) so I’ve been out of touch lately with you all. Haven’t even connected with friends in LA yet. This summer has been filled with work & travel (Las Vegas, Austin, Colorado, now going to San Francisco. It’s taken me a while to catch my breath and just starting, just barely, to settle into our LA life. But it’s exactly what I envisioned and working out great! It’s working out great for the family too; an adjustment with Aaron flying back & forth, but it’s working!

🤔I believe creativity comes through inspiration. Something has to stoke that fire. And for me, LA is an amazing place of fuel for creativity. There is a momentum there that begun by those who went “out West” to start Hollywood, the land of imagination and possibility.
I want to expose my teenage children to this kind of thinking, way of life that shaped me. So that is way we are moving from the idyllic safe sweet island of Maui to LA. (And let them build a “sixth sense” to navigate city life, which is not possible in Maui)

I have started producing my podcast Discovery Mode based on this way of life and my journey of living through an exploration mindset. It took a long time for me to conceptualizing the premise that I hope will capture how I am inspired and continually stoked on life.

I discovered how quickly I could create a fictitious brand, create compelling videos and get likes and followers. Fun stuff! This was an exercise to get into a training program with one of the biggest & best know agencies in the creator space. Crossing my fingers 🤞🍀🙌

It was fun to come up with a name, logo design, create the prototype product, create the story & mission, then make content and post under a deadline of two days (while we had my 14 year old’s school graduation and normal life and moving prep! It’s been a whirlwind! But I’m excited!

💐Happy Mother’s Day
Only a mother can understand this feeling. It’s a little sound or the breath or the reach of your child needing mama. We are the only one that can satisfy that little soul at that moment. We have the goods, the magic, the smell, the taste that no one else in the universe has to satiate that yearn. In an instant our voice, our touch, our shape, our smell is recognized and provides that refuge.
We are the rock, the glue, the fuel, and we endure because we must. Mothers are a gift to society. We moms know what is required of us every day, and it is an existence of endurance through love. As probably for most moms, it’s a job I wouldn’t trade for anything else in the world. I’m with you moms and I celebrate with awe every mothering moment of life.
Today allow your self to relax, rest, sit back to marvel and savor the family that you shaped and built, and pour love into every single moment. This is your doing. Important noble work. Let them honor your place in their life. 💝✨
