Small Business Center (SBC) Network The Small Business Center Network provides free business counseling, workshops, training, and startup assistance through North Carolina's community colleges. Every community college in North Carolina has a Small Business Center dedicated to supporting entrepreneurs and small business owners.
For residents of Laurinburg and surrounding areas, local services are typically available through Richmond Community College's Small Business Center and the UNC Pembroke Entrepreneurship Hub.
Whether you're developing a business idea, creating a business plan, seeking funding opportunities, or working through obstacles in your existing business, these resources can help guide you forward.

For The Active Women, 9/11 carries a deep meaning — a reminder of courage, unity, and the power of service. This year also marked the annual United Way Day of Caring, a day dedicated to giving back, lifting others, and strengthening our community through acts of kindness.
The Active Women proudly joined this effort. Executive Director Chanel Carmichael and Board Chair Annie Blue volunteered at Project InAsMuch, a local nonprofit whose heart for service shines brightly throughout Scotland County. InAsMuch provides essential support to families and children, offering meals and compassion to those who need it most. Their work is rooted in Christ, love, and dignity. During the Day of Caring, Chanel and Annie helped prepare lunch bags for Scotland County School children — writing “Jesus loves you” on each bag and filling them with snacks, milk, and ceral. It was a simple act with a powerful message: hope, encouragement, and a reminder that someone is thinking of them. For The Active Women, being part of this project was an honor. On a day when our country reflects on loss, bravery, and unity, we were grateful to stand alongside InAsMuch and United Way to serve our community with purpose and compassion. Service is at the heart of our mission, and moments like this remind us why we do the work — to uplift, to empower, and to stay active. We look forward to continuing this partnership and supporting the incredible work In As Much does for families across Scotland County.

There are women who have promised themselves, "This is the year I'm putting myself first." They buy the workout shoes, start the plan, set the goals, and then life happens. Responsibilities pile up. Schedules get busy. Progress feels slow. Doubt begins to whisper that maybe change isn't possible.

If you’re available, your help would be greatly appreciated this afternoon. Volunteer activities include packing book bags and preparing the space for tomorrow’s event.
