Citrus Creative LLC

Citrus Creative LLC Equitably priced brand enhancement, marketing, & design services curated to help your business grow! Hi, I'm Della Smith!

I opened Citrus Creative earlier this year when I recognized a need for equitable creative design solutions for small businesses and entrepreneurs. Clients choose from four pricing tiers for each service so they can invest at the level they're comfortable with AND get the services they need to grow! The services offered across the tiers are always the same, and I offer that fully trusting that my

clients will make the decision that's best for them and their business. My clients typically start out with what I call a Lemonade Stand Package, where we really hone in on their brand's voice so we can capture everything that's amazing about them and create a cohesive brand identity that translates into tangible websites, marketing, and graphics!

I’m going to be real real, here. I don’t love Valentine’s Day. Specifically, the intense capitalism that drives it, the expectations, the money spent— it stresses me out. I celebrated it many times, but I was never really in it, ya know? Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for having an additional special day to celebrate love! I just prefer it to be more low-key.

Back in 2019 I started reframing what I wanted that day to mean to me, and how I’d celebrate it going forward. It was my first Valentine’s Day after my ex-husband and I split up, and I was still feeling pretty raw. So, I decided I would celebrate love- but for my life. I pampered myself and spent extra time meditating and just being fully present in my self-care tasks. I’d celebrate my wins, and my growth, and my love for, well, everyone. The universe has a certain magic to it, if you slow down and appreciate it all.

Now that I have my own company, I find it’s even more needed and important that I slow down and show up for those moments with myself and my partner. To appreciate the magic.

SO, this week I’ve slowed down. I practiced self-care in the form of tidying up my desk and my workflow management app. I set and held a boundary with a friend when my partner and I had planned to be present with one another. I put on my softest sweater, and my grandmother’s necklace to feel close to her. And I reveled in all the little things I get to do with and for my clients. I truly love my life and my work— and if that’s not magic, I don’t know what is.

So, tell me. How have you shown up and celebrated this week?

Ya know those moments where someone is explaining what they do and you are ✨totally lost✨? ME, TOO!
“Say It Like I’m Not A Designer” breaks down things my clients have asked about, what’s good (or bad) about them, and why it’s important to their businesses in a way that actually makes sense!

Quick Recap:
-Web design is the umbrella that holds all the activities done to create and maintain a website.

-Websites are an excellent way to connect with your audience in a way that YOU dictate, and gives you endless possibilities.

-Save yourself the time and headache and hire a web designer, like Citrus Creative, so you can focus on doing what you love!

Say It Like I’m Not A Designer: a series where I explain what all that designer jargon means, why it's important, and who it's actually important for. Because not everyone needs, or needs to do, All The Things.

Quick Recap:
-WC3 works towards making the Web accessible, available, and equitable for everyone.

-As technology and society continue to grow together, the Web becomes more and more integral to our lives. I, for one, don’t remember the last time I went a day without accessing the Web in one form or another.

Quick Recap:
-Accessibility doesn’t end at your storefront or website. Your ads, social media posts, the colors in your logo, the fonts you use, and more all impact your brand’s overall accessibility.
-According to the CDC, 1 in 4 adults in the US lives with a disability. Accessibility offers them an equitable ability to become your client.
-It’s a great idea to learn more about accessibility!
-Make sure those you outsource to check for accessibility compliance

So, I’m in ✨pain✨ which is not abnormal. I live with chronic pain and illnesses. It’s just a neutral fact of my life. BUT several different things came together to make this pain a little extra spicy. And I’m sick. Again. It’s been off and on since Thanksgiving. And previously I’ve resisted rest, added stress to myself, entertained thought spirals and panic attacks, and just all around created a sucky experience for myself in both the personal and professional aspects of my life.

But we’re not doing that this time. See, my core life philosophy is, “The more I honor my body, the more I ____.”
So, the more I honor my body, the more money I make. The more I honor my body, the more fun I have! The list is never-ending. Because when I am honoring my body, I’m doing the things I need to do in that moment so I’m not prolonging pain and discomfort and frustration. There is no “Just push through it” with my injuries. That leaves me out of commission for WEEKS. Seriously. It’s happened before.

So rather than resisting and letting my anxiety and frustration control my actions, I’m honoring my body. I’m resting. I went to the one meeting I had scheduled this week. And I’m not judging myself for sleeping off and on from about 12:30am to 3:30pm today. I’m actually a little impressed by it, because sleep and I aren’t exactly BFFs.

There is work I wanted to get done for my business this week, and an overall plan I had to end January with. There’s SILINAD posts I’ve wanted to get posted since getting back from a business coaching retreat over the weekend. Is it happening the way I wanted? No. Can I control when my body is in pain and needs rest? Not really. Is it perfect? Also no.

And it’s going to be ok.

Because I’m honoring my body, and that’s way more important to me than making sure I post to my business socials the exact dates I planned.

The point of all of this is to tell you that perfectionism can kick rocks and we need rest and to treat ourselves with compassion.

Especially those of us working to move forward in ways we can realistically sustain.

✨ LADY BOSS PROFILE ✨

Meet Della Smith, the owner of Citrus Creative LLC. Della opened Citrus Creative in 2022 when she recognized a need for equitable creative design solutions for small businesses and entrepreneurs. Clients choose from four pricing tiers for each service so they can invest at the level they're comfortable with AND get the services they need to grow! The services offered across the tiers are always the same, and Della offers that fully trusting that her clients will make the decision that's best for them and their business.

Her clients typically start out with what she calls a Lemonade Stand Package, where they really hone in on the brand's voice so they can capture everything that's amazing about them and create a cohesive brand identity that translates into tangible websites, marketing, and graphics!

✨ What is your goal for the next year?

My goal for the next year is to expand my business so that I can offer an additional accessibility rate that's even lower than my current pricing and offer some sort of scholarship or angel investment to a small business! I'm still working on the details of that last one. I know there's tons of brilliant humans with amazing business ideas, and I want to do everything in my power to ensure they can access the marketing and design services that will help them grow.

✨Who is your biggest inspiration?

That would be life and business coach, Keli Jackson. She is the person who first introduced me to equitable, anti-capitalist business approaches. Keli has taught me so much, and does so in a way that is compassionate, authentic, and incredibly human. She hosts a podcast, "F-Words: Your Business is Feminist AF" that I HIGHLY recommend.

✨What makes your business unique?

My two core business philosophies:
1. When I honor my body, I honor my business. I have chronic medical conditions that impact my mobility and overall health. Following this philosophy means that I show up for my clients as my best self with a quality-first approach. This offers them the best version of everything I can offer- rather than receiving something simply because there's some sort of micro-deadline in place. We work together using a project management program that allows them to see where we're at at any time. This gives us space to collaborate and pivot as needed to create something truly amazing that they can't wait to share with their own clients.
2. I tell my clients often, "When you win, I win" and I deeply believe that to be true. There are few things in life that bring me as much joy as helping and seeing someone else grow and thrive- and that is how I approach every interaction with them.

✨ What other passions do you have?

I've been writing creatively and working with other writers and indie authors to hone their unique voices and stories for a little over 16 years now. I love it just as much now as I did when I was first introduced to it! I published a poetry collection titled Musings of a Muddled Mind in 2021- though it's currently pulled while I update illustrations. I love to create, and that comes in many forms from my work and writing, to drawing, painting, crochet, sculpting clay, and just about any other medium I can get my hands on!

✨ What is your favorite thing about Lawrence?

Lawrence is a beautiful city with residents who really care about each other and the place they live and work. I think there's something magical about that.

If YOU want you and your business to be profiled in the coming weeks, send Lawrence Lady Boss Project a message. I will get back to you with a handful of questions. All I need from you is the answers and a picture of you! When when you profile goes live, you can share it on your social media as another form of marketing.

Quick Recap:
-Brand tone is important in creating context, to match a situation or moment, and to create a desired reaction.

-It’s something to consider and keep in mind, but not something you need to spend hours agonizing over.

-Especially for launches, websites, and frequently used communications, it's a GREAT idea to work with someone who can help ensure the tone used in your written and recorded materials matches your brand’s voice and values!
