Celebrating 10 years as a solopreneur and almost 16 years as an entrepreneur!
How did I become a business owner?
Well, it wasn’t truly intentional to “own a business” as much as I found a way to do what I loved doing.
And then I had been asked “how do I pay you for this?” By my very first customer.
In 2010, I was asked to photograph custom cabinetry in a home that featured handmade woodworking in a beautiful kitchen.
The photos were something so fun to take, and I enjoyed editing and delivering the final product.
I didn’t even know what to say when they asked me how they’d like me to get paid or how much. It’s almost like I wanted to skip that part altogether and just do what made me happy, take photos and make artwork for them to show the world how amazing of a job that company did.
Fast forward past the learning while earning years of trying to do anything and everything for $100.
I learned that number was dirt cheap to some, and way out of the budget for others considering photo shoots were anywhere from a portrait session to an interior design or real estate project.
What I did learn most is not only how to take better photos and ask for money more aligned with my value, pay bills and taxes, and grow a marketing campaign to steady my streams of income but more importantly, I learned all about who I was, and how to generate income from a heart center, community focused place
