Wow. Another trailblazer called home. Thank you, Gloria.

Some people put their ideas out in the world and hope they catch on. Not Gloria Steinem.

Through her writing, her speeches, and her organizing, she demanded that the world pay attention to all the ways that women had been — and in some cases, still are — treated unfairly. And she helped awaken us to problems like domestic violence, the lack of affordable child care, and unfair hiring practices that had too often been ignored or overlooked.

Gloria really was larger than life. Today, generations of women are walking a little taller and aiming a little higher because of what she fought for and achieved. Michelle and I are thinking of her family today, and everyone — women and men — who were inspired by her towering example.

You knew who you were... always... without apology, without a co-signer, without needing permission. And oh, how you were blessed with talent.

God will be at the gates to welcome you with the most glorious tribute.

Your family, colleagues, friends, fellow artists... will keep you alive and speak your name... forever.

August 11 could determine the future of the historic Attucks High School.

For years, many organizations have been fighting to save this landmark not just to preserve a building, but to create opportunities for future generations. Thanks to the generosity of Fuentes Construction Management LLC and many dedicated supporters, we have been able to stabilize the structure and remove years of debris. While those are significant accomplishments, they are only the beginning.

We are still not at the finish line.

To continue securing and restoring Attucks, we must raise $300,000. Without these resources, the progress we’ve made may not be enough to preserve this historic treasure.

Today, we are asking our community, alumni, businesses, churches, foundations, contractors, engineers, architects, skilled tradespeople, and anyone who believes in preserving history to join us.

Whether you can make a financial contribution, donate materials, volunteer your expertise, or connect us with resources, your support can make the difference.

This isn’t just about saving an old school. It’s about preserving the legacy of those who came before us and creating a place where future generations can learn, lead, and thrive.
