I didn’t know I could do book covers until a dear friend commissioned me to try. that faith and investment was a catalyst to who I am as an illustrator today, beyond book covers.

forever grateful to those who trust me with their vision. I don’t take it lightly. it’s wild what we can achieve when we push past what’s comfortable.

Sometimes God’s way of exalting looks like the total opposite of what we’d think.

It seems His whole Kingdom turns everything we know on its head.

Just think about it.

The world praises people who do whatever it takes to get to the top echelons of society;

Jesus left his throne to submit to the most vulnerable state of being.

Pop culture makes a list of achievements and points human-worth to awards and prized possessions;

Jesus didn’t count equality with God as His to grasp.

Why would He do this?

What was the point?

A relationship with you and me.

He did all that to express that He values us more than His own divinity.

This is the love He shares.

Love that humbles our pride to die and lifts us up to the truth so we can finally heal.

Humility made a way for Love to have a say.

And Love says be humble.

“Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”

As a kid I remember gathering around the piano with a bunch of adults and joining them in singing; my mom on the ivories directing us all.

The harmonies astounded me

The different timbres of voice

The breathy, the bold

The deep rumble, the high descant

The years of experience in their voices joining the inexperience of mine

Each sound couldn’t be more opposite…
but together… it was Heavenly

And the unison, that unison…
The range of sound pockets filled by each unique voice filled every corner of my ears

Like the sound of different languages all at once saying the Lord’s Prayer and yet at the end, every single one in agreement on “amen”.

A reminder that agreement sounds extra beautiful when it’s coming from vast difference.

The sound that points to me the day every voice will agree and confess the same thing…
Jesus Christ is Lord.
