Not every season in business looks like growth.

Some seasons are busy.
Some bring new customers, new ideas and exciting things you can actually point to.
And some are quieter.

You're fixing things behind the scenes.
Learning.
Cleaning up systems.
Trying something that may or may not work.
Figuring out where you're going next.

It's easy to look at those seasons and wonder if you're falling behind.

But I think living where we do gives us a pretty good reminder:
Nothing grows all year long. 🌾
The quiet seasons have a purpose too.
Sometimes you're growing.
Sometimes you're harvesting.
And sometimes you're getting the ground ready for whatever comes next.

Don't discount that part.

Your customers probably don't care how you do it.

I know. That sounds a little harsh. But hear me out.

As business owners, we spend so much time inside our businesses that we naturally talk about the process.

The equipment we use.
The steps involved.
The technical details.
The features.

Meanwhile, your customer is usually wondering something much simpler:
“What is this going to do for me?”

A contractor isn't just selling new windows.
They're selling a warmer house and a lower heating bill.

A photographer isn't just selling an hour-long session and 40 edited images.
They're giving someone photographs they'll still have twenty years from now.

And marketing isn't just posts, websites and SEO.
It's helping the right people find your business and making it easier for them to choose you.

Take a look at something you're promoting right now.
Are you explaining what it is... or showing people why it matters?

I think small business owners underestimate how much they already know.

- You answer the same customer questions every week.
- You explain things people misunderstand about your industry.
- You give advice.
- You solve problems.
- You tell customers what to look for before they buy.

And then you sit down to post on Facebook and think...

“I have no idea what to post.” 😂

There's your content.
You don't have to become a content creator.
You just have to start paying attention to the conversations you're already having.

What question did a customer ask you this week?

There's a pretty good chance someone else is wondering the exact same thing.

If your marketing only works when you're constantly working... you don't have a system yet.

You post.
Someone responds.
You send the information.
You answer the questions.
You hunt down the link.
You follow up.

And then you do it all over again.

That's exhausting.

When something starts working in your business, don't automatically decide you need to do more of it.

Instead, ask:

How can I make this easier the next time?

Maybe it's making your bio clearer.
Maybe it's giving people one obvious link.
Maybe it's having the information ready when they get there.

Little systems like these mean the next customer gets the same clear experience—without you having to personally walk them through every step.

You don't always need more hours. Sometimes you need a better system. 🌾

That's how you grow without letting your marketing take over your life.

Your profile bio is either helping you grow… or making people work too hard to figure out what you do.

When someone lands on your page ready to hire you, they want to know three things pretty quickly:

What do you do?
Who do you help?
How do they contact you?

They shouldn’t have to scroll through six months of posts, click three different links, or play detective to figure it out. 😂

Your bio doesn’t need to be clever.

It needs to be clear.

I used to think marketing needed to be more complicated to get results. The more I work with small businesses, the more I see the opposite.

Make it easy to understand you.
Make it easy to trust you.
Make it easy to take the next step.

Not sure if your profile is doing that?

Getting views but no calls?

A local business owner asked me over coffee why people were finding her business online... but nobody seemed to be reaching out.

And here's the thing:

Getting found is only the first step.

Once someone lands on your profile, they need to quickly understand:

✔️ What you do
✔️ Who you help
✔️ Where you're located
✔️ How to contact you
✔️ What they should do next

If they have to hunt for those answers, there's a good chance they'll move on.

You don't always need more views.

Sometimes you just need to make the views you already have work harder.

Not sure what people see when they find your business?

I spent ten minutes trying to figure out why my laptop wouldn't turn on this morning, only to realize I unplugged the power strip while Swiffering the kitchen floor. It is so easy to overcomplicate things when we are tired and trying to get things done. When local business owners ask how to get neighbors to call them, they usually compare spending money on local ads against posting on social media every single day. But if your main phone number isn't set as the primary direct line on your Google listing, those other options get wasted. People tap once on their phone, don't see a direct call option, and move on to the next local business. Fixing that primary line costs zero dollars and takes five minutes. Have you checked your primary contact line on Google lately, or are you relying on social media to do the heavy lifting?
