Shelf Awareness gave a starred review to MIA by Leslie Bazzett!

"When an aspiring writer falls under the spell of a mysterious older woman, it sets in motion a precipitous chain of events in Leslie Bazzett's dazzling debut novel, MIA, an erotically charged suspense drama fueled by one woman's 'fantasy of belonging.'

[....]

A mesmerizing novel infused with a sense of foreboding, Mia invites readers to ponder the costs to authenticity when living in denial of the past."

NPR staffers chose GHOST TOWN by Tom Perrotta as one of their "favorite fiction reads of 2026 so far!"

"Tom Perrotta's latest novel is a memory piece set in the summer of 1974. Jay Perry, a once serious writer who has struck it rich with a kids book series-turned-TV show featuring a paranormal crusader called Ghost Teacher, is invited back to his suburban New Jersey hometown, which he left some 50 years earlier. Most of the novel follows the life of young "Jimmy" during the life-changing summer when he lost his mother, experimented with s*x and a Ouija board, and learned the consequences of hanging out with the wrong guys. Perrotta's view of strip mall suburbs as places where banality, goofiness, grace and tragedy converge is singular." -Maureen Corrigan, book critic, Fresh Air

ON WITNESS AND RESPAIR by Jesmyn Ward and 'Pemi Aguda's ONE LEG ON EARTH were included in TIME's list of "The Best New Books to Read This Summer!"

"A bizarre epidemic is sweeping Lagos: pregnant women are drowning themselves in the city's lagoons and canals. These suicides haunt an ambitious young architect, Yosoye, who is beginning work on a luxury development heralded as a symbol of Nigeria's emergence onto the world stage. After a hook-up, Yosoye discovers she is pregnant and starts questioning everything, including 'unsensible, unapologetic' motherhood itself. Soon, she realizes the unseen menace felt throughout Lagos is stalking her. A bold stroke from 'Pemi Aguda, a National Book Award finalist for Ghostroots.

A two-time winner of the National Book Award in fiction, Jesmyn Ward gathers previously published pieces and public addresses into a collection that limns arcs found in Black art, from Ta-Nehisi Coates's moral manifestoes to Ava DuVernay's stylish films to the canon of Toni Morrison, whom she eulogized in 2019: 'She called us out of our wandering, her voice a high, clear music in the star-suffused desert air.' Ward also finds meaning in the agonized history of her native South, illuminating our most misunderstood member of the American family."

"Separation" from THE WORDS OF DR. L by Karen E. Bender was included on Rebecca Chase's female friendship reading list on the Language Arts Substack!

"These short stories live in the uncanny valley between where we live now, and where we may well live in the future.

'Separation' imagines two young girls on the cusp of puberty, living in the last city left in America. The city is somewhere near the Great Lakes, where there is still a reserve of water. The continent is on fire. Dawn's family is enormously wealthy. They will soon fly away to Mars on rocket ships, an event the government calls the 'Separation.' Not everyone can get on the ship, but the government promises that the ones who leave will return for those left behind. Our narrator is Dawn's best friend, whose parents are not members of the 1% and have their own ideas about survival. Nobody is really telling the children anything. This chilling story is about what it means to be the chosen 'best friend' and what you leave behind. It's all too real and quietly unforgettable."

Booklist gave Kyle Carrero Lopez's PARTY LINE a starred review!

"In this wonderfully bustling book of poems, Lopez plays with 'parties' as both social events and political entities through profound reflections on his Cuban heritage and illuminating insights into ballroom drag scenes. Lopez's deceptively breezy lyrics undercut assumptions about q***r, Cuban, and American cultures as his speaker rubs shoulders with intellectuals, artists, and activists amid gossipy chatter and hardcore discourse [....] An urgently timely, eye-opening, and incandescent collection."

MIA by Leslie Bazzett received a starred review from Booklist!

"Peppered with vivid descriptions of small-town Mexico, Bazzett's prose is at once gorgeous and harsh, and her characters jump off the page, especially Sally, whom readers will come to view as their surrogate. Mia is ultimately a look into the mind of a woman who only knows how to fill herself up with other people and an examination of what that ultimately costs."

QUEEN MAB by Emily McBride received a starred review from Booklist!

"McBride's debut is a sublime, serious depiction of madness and imagination in relation to motherhood. She masterfully pairs haunting epigraphs (Yeats, Keats, Tennyson) with each chapter and dusts the narrative with delicious literary allusions, and her Note on Sources is a bonus for lit lovers."
