đ¨ SCAM ALERT: Donât Fall for Fake Geek Squad Messages!
Scammers are impersonating Geek Squad and sending emails or texts claiming that youâve been charged for a membership renewal or other service. The goal? To get you to call a fake phone number, share personal information, or give them remote access to your computer.
Here are a few ways to protect yourself:
đš Donât call the number in the message. If youâre concerned about a charge, find the companyâs phone number yourself using an official website or a bill you know is legitimate.
đš Donât click suspicious links. Even if the message looks professional, it could take you to a fake website designed to steal your information.
đš Check your accounts directly. Log into your bank or credit-card account through the official app or website to see if the charge actually exists.
đš Never give a stranger remote access to your computer. Legitimate companies generally wonât unexpectedly contact you and ask you to install software or give them control of your device.
đš Watch for urgency. Scammers often try to make you panic by saying youâve been charged hundreds of dollars or that you need to act immediately.
đš When in doubt, stop and verify. A legitimate company wonât mind if you take a few minutes to independently verify a message.
Remember: If you didnât expect the message, donât react to it immediately. Stop. Verify. Then act.
