North America Gets a Near-Blood Moon: Deep Partial Lunar Eclipse on August 27–28, 2026
A deep partial lunar eclipse will be visible across the USA and Canada on the night of August 27–28, 2026, with about 96% of the full Moon plunging into Earth’s shadow and taking on a dramatic copper-red or deep orange hue.
This near-“Blood Moon” occurs during the Sturgeon Moon and offers excellent viewing for most of North America, especially in the central and eastern regions.
Unlike the solar eclipse earlier that month, this lunar event is safe to watch with the naked eye and requires no special filters.
