Memphis, Tenn.: Thomas Burrell, President of the 20,000-member Black Farmers and Agriculturalists Association (BFAA), headquartered in Memphis, Tenn., joined forces with Democratic Tennessee State Senator Raumesh Akbari (District 29, Memphis) in a Zoom meeting Thursday, spearheading a movement of deep concern about the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) discrimination of Black farmers.

President Burrell entrusted Senator Akbari to spearhead an investigation with the Tennessee Attorney General into the denial of estates to African-American farmers, igniting a pivotal inquiry into whether this denial undermines the fundamental property rights of U.S. citizens, as safeguarded by State law.
