"Am I ready to apply for funding?" is a harder question than it sounds.

Grants, loans, crowdfunding, investors — they all want different things from you, and applying for the wrong one can cost you more than it helps.

Ready.Set.Grow is a free 4-part course + workbook that walks you through it, at your own pace. Real worksheets. No fluff. Start whenever you're ready — there's no cohort to wait for.

Meet DeAnna McIntosh, one of the advisors ready to work with HUUB members.

DeAnna is who you book when you're ready to turn a bold idea into an actual business model — one that's profitable, feels like you, and is built to scale. She helps with things like building offers that actually convert, setting up systems that save you time, designing sales processes that don't feel pushy, and figuring out what to do with all those ideas you haven't acted on yet.

If your business has outgrown the version of it you built a year or two ago, this is the session to book.

If you're the founder, the ops team, the marketer, and the person who answers the phone — you're not alone in that. Most solo business owners are running the exact same setup.

The problem isn't that you're doing it all. It's that "doing it all" doesn't scale, and it's usually the reason growth stalls right when things start picking up.

Here are 3 questions to figure out where you're the actual bottleneck: → What only happens when you personally do it? → What would break if you took a week off? → What's one task worth $20/hour or less of your time?

August is Black Business Month, and we're using it to do more than post about it.

All month, we're spotlighting Black-owned businesses in our community, sharing resources built for Black entrepreneurs, and pointing people toward the advisors and funding paths that can actually move the needle.

If that's you, or you know someone it should be — drop a comment. We'd love to feature you.

August has a reputation for being slow. For a lot of businesses, it kind of is.

Here's the reframe: slow isn't wasted, it's a window. This is the month to fix the thing you haven't had time to fix, clean up the process that's been held together with duct tape, or finally sit down with the numbers you've been avoiding.

Slide through for 4 things worth tackling this month, before Q4 speeds everything back up: → The process you keep doing manually → The pricing you haven't revisited all year → The task you know you should hand off → The system that breaks every single time you're busy

Profitable on paper. Stressed every month.

That's the cash flow trap — and it's the number one operational challenge for small business owners right now. Not slow sales. Cash flow.

If this is you, save this post.

Here's what actually helps:
Know your 90-day picture, not just your current balance. When is money coming in? When is money going out?
Separate your operating account from your tax account. A lot of cash flow stress is really "I forgot to set aside taxes" stress.
Invoice the moment the work is done. Not at the end of the month.
Know which clients or customers pay late and price accordingly.

None of this requires a new tool. It requires looking at the numbers regularly.

July is a good time to look at the numbers.

Not to stress about them. Just to see where you actually are.

A few questions worth asking: Which service or product is bringing in the most revenue? Which one is taking the most time for the least return? What did you say yes to that you should have said no to?

The second half of the year is easier to plan when you're honest about the first half.

This past Saturday, two of our HUUB advisors, Manuel Lucero and Rebecca Lane, joined a community business meetup at Barako Coffee Shop in Mesa, AZ. The conversation covered starting a business, accessing funding, and other resources available to small business owners in the area.
More than 15 local entrepreneurs and community members came out for the discussion.

Thank you to Susan McCants for the invitation and for bringing everyone together. We're grateful for community-minded small business owners like Susan who create spaces for entrepreneurs to connect and learn.
