DIFFERENTIATE OR DIE

Marketers and Copywriters have long been instilled with the necessity of differentiating their product or service from the competition in a meaningful way.

• My first boss, Rosser Reeves preached it in his book “Reality In Advertising” where he introduced the concept of the UNIQUE Selling Proposition (USP).

• Legendary Copywriter Raymone Rubicam famously said,”…the beginning of greatness is to be different, and the beginning of failure is to be the same”.

• Jack Trout, acclaimed author and marketing strategist dedicated an entire book to “differentiate or Die”.

The list is endless.

There are thousands of wonderful examples in the last 75 years you can learn from.

I have selected one 60-second TV spot for Bud Light because it sent a mindboggling jolt of creative lightning through me that has penetrated many of my finest (and most successful) copywriting pieces over many years.

I hope that when you watch it, that this lightning will strike you, too.
