My neighbor asked ChatGPT for a plumber last month. She did not open Google at all.
It gave her three names. She called the first one.
That is a small story and it is also the whole shift. People are starting to ask AI tools for local recommendations the way they used to ask a Facebook group.
Here is the part that matters for you. Those tools are not making names up. They are pulling from your Google Business Profile, your website, your reviews, and any place your business is mentioned by someone else. If your information is thin, inconsistent, or missing, you are not in the answer.
Nobody has to learn a new platform for this. There is no AI account to set up.
What gets you cited is the same thing that has always built trust. Accurate information in every place your name appears. Real reviews from real customers. Clear plain answers to the questions people actually ask.
It is the same work. It is just being read by a new reader.
If you run a local service business and you have been putting off the boring stuff, the boring stuff got more valuable.
