School teaches compliance⦠but kids are wired for curiosity, movement, and real-world learning.
We take naturally active, imaginative kids and ask them to sit still for hours, stay quiet, and memorize information⦠then wonder why they disengage. What they actually need is time outside, unstructured play, problem-solving, and the freedom to explore how the world works in real time.
And being around other kids all day? Thatās not the same as true socialization. Real social skills are built in mixed environments⦠different ages, real conversations, navigating everyday situations⦠not just sitting in the same room following the same rules.
Memorization gets praised, but comprehension gets overlooked.
Passing a test doesnāt always mean a child understands⦠it often means they learned how to repeat.
And then we fast forwardā¦
High schoolers who have spent years being told what to do, when to do it, and how to do it⦠are suddenly expected to think independently, make decisions, and ābe ready for the real world.ā
But no one really taught them how.
How to manage money.
How to maintain a home.
How to think critically or solve problems without being given the answer.
How to make decisions and trust themselves.
So many are left second guessing even the most basic choices⦠not because they arenāt capable, but because they havenāt been given the space to practice.
At some point, I had to ask myselfā¦
are we preparing kids for life⦠or just preparing them to function inside a system?
Because those are not the same thing.
Iām not saying thereās only one way to do it⦠but I do think more parents are starting to question what their kids actually need to thrive.
What do you think kids are missing most right now?
