In Monopoly, the more real estate you own the more likely someone Linds on you and pays you money.

Your online marketing works the same way. The more places your business shows up online the more likely you are to receive business - barring poor reviews.

Whether you are someone who just clicks on the first option or someone who refuses to click on an ad.....my client Seacoast home and leisure is right there either way!

In a space where relationships play second fiddle to data, AI or platforms that seamlessly automate blah blah blah - Revlocal keeps it old school.

We commit to meeting (or having a call) with our clients on a monthly basis to review strategy, brainstorm new ideas and go over results - a bold strategy considering we have no contracts.

I recently had a great monthly call with the client below - he's been with us for just shy of a year. He told us his business has really taken off as of late and thinks we are playing a big role in that. I agree.

With some of the success he's experiencing he's buying a boat.

This was a great reminder how personal the investment with Revlocal is for these business owners each month.

This money could being going to their son's braces, their daughter's travel soccer team or tickets to watch their favorite team or artist play. For them, it has to work.

Most people know that Google is the most popular search engine and the primary way consumers interact with businesses online.

I’ve seen data from claiming that anywhere from 85-95% of searches begin on google.

The 10ish % of searches that don’t start on google present an opportunity for your business.

While most know to create a GMB listing there are some out there searching on Bing, Yelp, Facebook, yahoo or sadly.....AOL.

By maximizing your presence on these directories you’ll give yourself more at bats with potential clients on search engines that are likely neglected by some of your competition.

The search volume is minimal but it’s consistently there.

Here’s an example of the clicks to a local clients website and where they came from to give you some context. Just an FYI “(direct)” means they someone searched directly for this business on Google.

Salespeople don’t have any credibility. We are biased.

Credibility can be earned but only after a client entrusts Revlocal to handle their digital marketing and we meet or exceed expectations.

For this reason I’m extremely thankful for any and all positive feedback I receive from my clients. They tell a story I can’t.

Whether you are in sales or own a business remember, your credibility may be in question by a potential customer. When they do their due diligence on your business what are they going to find?

In 2019 if you can talk, you can search for a local business.

Recently I’ve heard from a fair amount of business owners that they do not believe their clients search for their products or services online.

Typically these are businesses that are more expensive and thus, don’t do business with many young people.

The assumption is that since most of their clients are over 40 years old they wouldn’t use the internet to look for something.

According to a 2019 Chatmeter study, 40% of adults use voice search every day.

The biggest obstacle a prospect typically has in working with Revlocal is fear of change. I can ease that fear but it’ll always exist. People would rather dance with the devil they know vs the devil they don’t.

The second biggest obstacle is the prospect has been burned in the past.

If you are looking to grow your presence online you’ve likely done some research into the options out there.

You’re now a prime candidate for ads like the ones I’ve attached below.

Don’t fall for them.

There are no shortcuts. No 15 minute webinars that will teach you how to do what the pros do. No guaranteed 50 leads a month. No automated systems to book your calendar with meetings.

These people are all over the place. They are clowns.

Whether you’re working with a vendor locally or someone across the country read their reviews and beware of guarantees or you may get burned.

I’ve always been obsessed with informercials.

Was chatting with a prospect this am who expressed he may be too busy to communicate with us as often as we ask.

I told him that was fine, after all it’s his money. You don’t have to speak with us every month for this process to work.

This reminded me my favorite infomercial from my childhood - one I’ve likely seen 20+ times.

“Set it and forget it” was the phrase Ron Popeil said over and over as he showed off his Showtime Rotisserie- and yes I still remember the guy’s name.

That’s not exactly the message we like to convey - “forget it.” We need our clients to have a relationship with us and we get the best results with those clients that see us as a partner - an extension of their business.

However, I think it embodies what a partnership with Revlocal looks like. We want our clients input, we want to know what’s going on in your business but we’ve got the digital stuff handled. You’re in good hands with Revlocal.

It’s quite common the same person that said something like this will give me a meeting a few weeks later forgetting they told me how much they loved their vendor hoping I would just leave them alone.

I get it, the only sales guy I don’t really mind is...me.

Once we finally sit down I learn they are not happy. They’re locked in a contract, they don’t hear from their vendor, it’s a scam, we don’t even know what they do for us...

Not everyone has to or is going to do online marketing but IF you think it’s an opportunity for your business make sure you find the right vendor.

Have you ever considered what % of you ad spend gets you in front of people who have no interest in your product?

How often do the mailers you receive from a local business end up in your trash can?

When was the last time you picked up your phone or hopped in your car and went to a local business after you saw their commercial?

Have you considered how many of the estimated impressions your billboard vendor uses to create their rates aren’t really impressions at all because the driver is on Instagram or texting as they drive by?

All of these traditional forms of advertising have value, Ive used some of them myself. Branding your business is important but it’s a long game.

If your budget is tight or you’ve never tried marketing your business at all getting in front of people who are searching for what you do is a good place to start.

Search volume is the variable in the marketing equation that can’t be controlled. Your views can be manipulated but only if you are utilizing paid advertising.

You can still make huge leaps and bounds in your online strategy without paid ads if you take the proper steps to make sure you are getting in front of the right prospects.

This is an example of just that: July ‘19 v July ‘18 results show an 11% increase in views but a 200% increase in leads for an insurance client we recently took on in Colorado.

Quality over quantity.

Something you can do right now to get found by the right people: add multiple categorizations to your Google My Business page. Most businesses have their primary category filled out but you can also add up to 2 additional categories.
