Now that’s Kentucky Proud!

At just 13 years old, Barren County’s Gideon Showalter of Maid-N-Meadows, took home a Gold Medal at the 2026 Kentucky State Fair for his family’s farmstead feta cheese made from sheep’s milk and aged in traditional-style basket.

His 14-year old brother, Rowan, also earned a Gold Medal for his Tomme in the Natural Alpine Artisanal category which is a blend of sheep’s and cow’s milk made at their farm in Glasgow, KY. 🧀

They grew it, they cooked it, they crushed it!

The Garden Squash Challenge at the Kentucky State Fair was a delicious reminder that Kentucky-grown food is even better when the next generation gets to grow it, cook it, and put their spin on it.

Congrats to Franklin County High School on taking home the win with their squash soup recipe. And a high round of applause for all the students who brough their school garden-grown creations to the Farm to Fair Cooking Stage!
