Our littlest sales guy 🪨

oundcheck. Empty room. No crowd yet.
Just somebody doing something they’ve done thousands of times because they still love doing it.
I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of getting to watch this part.

I don’t think the goal is to get the most people possible to see something once.
I’d rather figure out how to make the right people care enough to come back.
Listen again. Follow the story. Buy the ticket. Bring a friend.
That’s when an audience starts becoming a fanbase.

I think this is the part of marketing I’m most fascinated by.
Not how many people saw it.
Why did somebody care?
What made them stop? What made them remember? What made them want to hear another song, buy a ticket, tell somebody else or come back?
You can measure attention pretty easily.
Buy-in is different.

I’ve watched Jimmy Yeary perform this song time and time again, and it never gets less emotional.

But there’s something different about hearing “I Drive Your Truck” from one of the people who actually sat down and wrote it.

He took a story and found the words to make millions of people who had never lived that exact moment feel something anyway.

That’s the part of all of this I’m fascinated by.

The best songs don’t just get heard. The best artists don’t just get watched. They make you feel something.

And when people feel something, they remember. They tell someone else. They come back. They buy in.

That’s how you turn a song into something people carry with them.

Our conversations end very abruptly sometimes. Apparently the show was starting. Whatever. 😂

I took this picture of MORGAN MYLES backstage at the Opry the night the world lost Dolly, right before she walked out and sang “I Will Always Love You.”
A few days later, they re-released her cover of the song and used my photo as the cover art.
I spend so much time thinking about the strategy behind content that sometimes I forget how much I just genuinely love making it.
Being in the room. Catching the moment. Taking the picture that somehow ends up becoming part of the story.
This was a pretty cool one.

There are a lot of incredibly talented people.

The ones who build careers give people a reason to remember them.

There’s a difference.

I spend a lot of time talking about monetization, and I think a lot of people hear that word and immediately think “we make money off these followers”.

But the right monetization strategy shouldn’t just make money from an audience. It should turn those followers into fans.

There’s a big difference between someone who watched a reel and someone who buys into what you do next.

Followers scroll past you.

Fans buy the ticket. They buy the merch. They stream the song. They send it to a friend. They come back the next time you’re in town.

Because the goal is never just more followers.

The goal is always more people who are bought in.

And that’s what builds careers.

Brands. Businesses. Artists. Experiences. I’m endlessly curious about what makes people care enough to show up, buy in, tell someone else, or come back.
Because getting someone’s attention is one thing. Making them actually care is something completely different.
