As businesses are feeling the need to tighten the belt and cut expenses, one of the questions many are asking right now is: "Do we still need a website, or is social media enough?"
And yes, I know what some people are probably thinking: "Of course the SEO strategist is going to say yes."
But the real answer depends on your business goals.
If your goal is simply to maintain a social presence, stay connected with your audience and give people a place to casually engage with your business, then no, you may not need a website.
If your goal is to have a professional online home where you can direct people for more information, then yes, a brochure-style website may still make sense.
But if your goal is to be found in Google, recommended by AI tools and build online brand recognition, then yes, you absolutely still need a website.
And not just a website with a few catchphrases on it. Anyone can put polished language on a website. That is not the same thing as having website content that actually supports those messages in a way people can trust and search engines can validate behind the scenes.
That's where my specialty comes into play. My services go beyond basic web design, and even beyond technical SEO. My strength is in the strategic planning, content structure and behind-the-scenes implementation that turns a website from a digital brochure into something that actually helps your business grow.
Social media can help people notice you and stay familiar with your brand. But your website still carries more weight when it comes to search visibility, because it is the clearest and most complete source of information that search and AI engines look to for understanding and trusting your business.
That is a big part of my Horse and Cart Theory. Traditional SEO treated visibility and the website like two separate parts of the process. In today's search landscape, they work in tandem. The same website content that helps search and AI engines understand your business also helps real people decide whether to trust you and take action.
So no, this is not really a website versus social media question. It is a business goals question.
If your goal is to be found, recommended and chosen, your website still matters.
