Before you can shoot fish in a barrel you need a barrel.
When you advertise on Facebook you're bothering people. They're there to talk, or argue, or look at pictures of their niece. They're not there to buy stuff, especially stuff they've never heard of - so the chance of them clicking your carefully created ad and immediately buying are low.
Does this mean you shouldn't advertise on facebook?
NO! It means you need to create a market to sell to with an awareness campaign. A big splashy image that grabs the attention, like a bucket of fish.
People who have express an interest in that ad, whether that be through watching your commercial, liking your page, or reading a post (like you are now) become part of a special group of individuals that know you and what you sell and are at least somewhat interested.
Those people are much more likely to buy. Now it's time to hit them with a conversion campaign. An ad directed to your website with a 'buy now' call to action.
Think of it like this.
Awareness Campaign: Putting fish in the barrel
Conversion Campaign: Shooting fish in a barrel
