Sales funnel vs website :

So, here comes a question -

Let me explain in a small scenario :
Let's say you went to a supermarket to buy some milk and Coffee powder. As soon you enter you see a lot of counters attractive discounts and Focus on all Shiny objects and you come out of the Shop with A big bag of goodies, except for milk and Coffee ;)

So, Conversion in a Funnel is much more than in a website.
Now, In my opinion, We need both.
You need to send your cold audience to Funnel and then use your follow up funnels or website to Retarget :)
