The Capital at the Center,

For many years, Ghana’s main airport was known as Kotoka International Airport, named after the military officer involved in the 1966 overthrow of Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
A Shift Toward Unity and Identity
As the nation evolved, many believed the country’s main gateway should reflect the capital city rather than a political moment in history.

It was therefore renamed Accra International Airport — a name symbolizing neutrality, national unity, and a stronger global presence.

The change represents not the erasing of history but a bold step toward Ghana’s future.
