The notion that follower count is the most important indicator of influence online is fading.⠀
For sure a big follower count is beneficial for reach, engagement and HOPEFULLY ROI. Yet, none of these will happen if there isn't the right strategy, content, or audience targeting.⠀⠀
What is good for one brand may not be what is good for another and it's time for companies and brands to step back from using social media strategies to CHASE followers and instead BUILD tribes that are reflective of who they are. Authenticity is the key.⠀

As influencers mature into savvy business people and companies focus more on multi-generational branding it will become more important for both parties to look at the value of the relationship beyond compensation. Creative freedom and authenticity should be at the forefront for both parties. A smart influencer that is concerned about their audience and brand should first ask about the brand's vision and the brand should clearly be able to answer this and understand why they want to work with this influencer and their audience before engaging. If you are a company not willing to collaborate with influencers and making decisions based on follower count and compensation - you are putting your ROI at risk. ⠀

Stand back from being a follower chaser .... your audience will notice the thirst and it won't be good for your brand.
