A little experiment. For science šŸ˜‚

Could I get ChatGPT to make an ad I’d actually put my business’s name on?

Swipe to see where we landed šŸ‘€

The chaotic ad is a parody, but you know the look. Getting somewhere better took some actual design thinking, a little pushback, and knowing when to stop.

I’m considering a one-time class on thinking like a design pro when prompting AI. Interested? Comment CLASS.

If it saves me from one more glowing brush-font ad, it’ll be worth it šŸ˜…

A week of sleepless nights to build a custom peer-to-peer fundraising platform from scratch.

I knew it would be work. I didn't quite know HOW much.

Here's what we built: a campaign page, ambassador signup, individual fundraiser pages, donor tracking, and the part I'm most proud of - a live view page that displays donations as they come in, with sounds, animations, and a fun goal-met celebration. Built for the energy in the room and the morale of fundraisers in the trenches.

The moment that summed up the whole thing:
A large donation came in after everyone went home from the fundraising event. Within minutes, one of our fundraisers messaged us excited about it - he was at home, on his couch, watching the live view.

That's when I knew the obsession with the dopamine details was worth it.

Here's why this matters:
Most fundraising platforms - Causematch, Charidy - charge around 3% on top of credit card fees. On a $100K campaign, that's $3K to the platform. On $500K, that's $15K. Real money for non-profits where every dollar matters.
What we built can live directly on a non-profit's own site, custom designed to fit their brand, with a flat one-time fee instead of a percentage. The bigger the campaign, the more it saves.

If you (or someone you know) is planning a campaign and the platform fees are making you wince - send me a message. I'd love to talk.

P.S. The Kav Hatorah campaign is live right now if you want to see it in action, and donate if you feel moved:

How many emails does it take to get one sentence on your website changed?

Well, it depends.

I’ve worked on sites where the copy was given to us and we designed + developed.
I’ve worked on sites where the design was all done and we were brought on for development.
And I’ve worked on sites where we handled all three.

All of these ways work. All can have a beautiful outcome. But one is definitely the most cost effective and time efficient.

Three guesses which one šŸ™‚

The real world-reality is: small changes happen.
(The thing you forgot to include, the thing that shifted in the business, the thing that just doesn’t ring right once you see it all designed…)

And they are often very important.

When all the creatives are on staff, changing a sentence is a matter of a quick message to the copywriter and a few minutes of editing.

And then the designer is right on hand to make sure the new wording doesn’t upend the visuals.

– Just one of the things we (and our clients!) are enjoying about having the full creative force all in one (virtual) place.

Quick game from Web of Creativity:
DESCRIBE THE VIBE

What one WORD (an adjective) would you use to describe the feeling in this snippet?

It’s a snippet from a site we designed. Our team is currently taking bets on how many answers will use a word that’s in the business name šŸ™‚

Drop your answer in the comments (the more, the merrier!), and look out for the answer post tomorrow.

ā€œIf a website is a performance,
design is the scenery, staging and costumesā€ – Bill Gates

(ok, Bill Gates didn’t actually say that, but we thought it was a smart line, worthy of a distinguished sayer.)

When a site promotes a personal brand, and that person is a professional who is also quite personable, design is a balancing act.

And the challenge gets intense when all this needs to appear on just a page.

It took careful blending of sizes, fonts, and quirky illustrations,
but I’m delighted to say this one pager has it all:

The pop and personality
The professionalism and clarity
The warmth and genuineness

And – pardon the pun – it has Raimy Rubin written all over it.

She kept putting off her website.

She meant to do it.

She even tried a few times - signed up for a website builder, picked a template, and started dragging things around. But nothing ever looked right.

Too many choices. Too much tech. Too much time wasted staring at a half-finished homepage that somehow looked worse than before.

So she gave up. Again.🫤

Then one day, she overheard someone say, ā€œI tried looking you up, but I couldn’t find a website.ā€

Oof.

Her business was real.
Her clients were happy.
But to anyone searching online?
It was like she didn’t exist.

That’s when she knew it was time to stop overcomplicating things and just š šžš š¢š ššØš§šž.

If you’ve been stuck on your website, you’re not alone.
The good news? Getting online doesn’t have to be so complicated. Sometimes, you just need the right approach.

Ever been in her shoes? What finally got you to take the leap?
