Thank you, Philip Kennicott for attending yesterday's concert and writing this during a difficult week for The Washington Post. We never take any journalist's work for granted and this is why powerful writing and criticism is so important. We need more not less. It is also a testament to the incredible work done by Gianandrea Noseda and, as the Maestro calls them, the artists of National Symphony Orchestra. We hope everyone reads this. A short excerpt: "A decade ago, before the arrival of Gianandrea Noseda as music director in 2017, the NSO was a respectable regional orchestra. Today, under Noseda, it is playing better than the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. So now, as it becomes an internationally important ensemble, it faces an existential crisis, years of homelessness and the collateral damage of the audience boycott of the center."

ABOUT THE NOSEDA EFFECT

"The Noseda Effect" is an intimate portrait of Gianandrea Noseda, one of the world’s leading conductors.

This is a story of how Gianandrea Noseda, the artist, was formed: his dedication, discipline, commitment to music, his craft, and love for his family. Join Noseda on this personal and artistic journey shot on location over three years beginning in his hometown of Milan at the iconic Teatro alla Scala and continuing onwards to The Juilliard School, The Kennedy Center, The Metropolitan Opera and Zurich Opera House. The film features interviews with family, friends, and artistic collaborators including Piotr Beczała, Renée Fleming, Stefano Poda, and many more.

Filmmaker Alex Olegnowicz captures Noseda’s humanity and devotion to his artform, as well as his loyalty, perseverance and artistic rebirth in the face of challenges like the Covid pandemic. Noseda is seen in study, rehearsal and performance, engaging with colleagues and friends, as well as spending time with his parents and making a pilgrimage to Milan Conservatory, where he studied and met his wife, Lucia. Noseda is also seen preparing risotto with his friend, legendary chef, Lidia Bastianich.

The film includes footage of Noseda conducting the Filarmonica della Scala, Juilliard Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, and at the Zurich Opera, while the soundtrack is drawn from Noseda’s extensive discography. "The Noseda Effect" will move you and give you an inside look at the life of one of the world’s most respected and beloved maestros.
