FROM THE ARCHIVES: ’s PÉRIPHÉRIQUE was staged in the banlieues of Paris between 2005 and 2008, in the context of unprecedented riots against social inequality — using the codes of historical painting to turn back the gaze on how its marginalised inhabitants were being (mis)represented in the tumultuous media climate of the time.
Published in 2021, our book presented the series in full for the first time, looking back on its original context in light of social, economic and political questions that remain as prescient today as they were twenty years ago.
PÉRIPHÉRIQUE was the winner of PhotoBook of the Year at the Paris Photo–Aperture Awards 2022, and a small handful of final rare archive copies are available at loosejoints.biz — don’t miss your chance!
