“When I became a climber, I used to find falling scary, even on sport climbs. It’s like my brain was running a physical engine that only computed what would happen without a rope. It took years to overcome that fear, and sometimes it tries to creep its way back in. Knowing there’s a solid rope between you and oblivion helps alleviate that.”

Climbing is a strange relationship with trust.

You trust your partner.
You trust the bolts.
But mostly—you trust the rope.

Every fall we took in Chattanooga reminded us why ropes matter. Modern dynamic ropes are built to stretch, absorb force, and reduce the shock of a fall, turning what could be catastrophic into just another moment in the day.

That invisible engineering is the difference between fear and freedom on the wall.

Which is why when we test ropes, we don’t hold back.

Because if there’s one thing climbers know…
it’s that the rope is the last word.

There’s a moment when you fall where everything goes quiet.

Your feet cut loose.
The wall disappears.
Gravity takes over.

Then the rope engages.

We came to Chattanooga to test some new lines from , and the only honest way to do that is by taking real falls. Big ones. The kind where you feel the rope stretch and absorb the energy exactly the way it was engineered to.

Dynamic ropes are designed to manage impact forces and absorb the energy of a fall, protecting both the climber and the protection in the wall. It’s one of those invisible pieces of engineering most people never think about—until the moment it matters.

So we kept climbing.
And Genevieve kept sending.
And occasionally… flying.

Turns out when you make ropes for climbers, they’re going to test them properly.

And honestly… that’s the fun part.

Fjallraven is a brand whose story eminates a deep connection to nature. Its the cold air on your face, picking blueberries, the sound of water trickling in a creek. Teaming up with the in-house creative, we explored the lush forests of the Pacific Northwest to capture the experiences that “Make Summer Count”.

Death of Villains

Making my way down to Hurricane, Utah for weeks at a time to join and . I would hike to the cave in the day with my RED and drone to capture the days progress and in the evenings, document their unlikely relationship.

Over time, I witnessed Kai’s incredible dedication to his goals. Hyper focused and unwavering. I saw Joe not as his terrible lapse in judgement that he was notoriously known for, but a mentor and supporter of the community.

Both carrying baggage from their past, I felt as though this experience together was healing for them and carried a strong moral.

It prompted a societal question that we all must face.

“Can we ever move beyond our worst transgressions? Or are we forever defined by a single moment?

It’s for you to decide.

Partnering with the team at , the film will launch in this years Reel Rock 19.

Death of Villains

I’ve know for some time. Together we’ve helped established the first climb gym in Jamaica, climbed towers in Moab, and now established the FA of “Death of Villains” 5.15a.

When Kai approached me to make a film about a potential FA ascent, I wondered how we could make this more than just another shred film. To create something deeper and more meaningful. had told me that during Kai’s early visits to the cave, they had met and he had opened the route specifically for Kai.

The juxtaposition between Kai’s impeccable nature and Joe’s shaded past raised my eyebrows and I knew that there was some greater than a first ascent here.

It was the colliding of worlds.

“Jamrock” follows the remarkable journey of , a 12-time national climbing champion and the visionary founder of “Climbing for Change.” Against the backdrop of Jamaica, renowned for its vibrant culture but not traditionally associated with rock climbing, Kai embarks on a transformative mission.

The film delves into the heart of Jamaica’s emerging climbing community, where passion and determination thrive despite limited resources and recognition. As a sport historically dominated by white individuals, Kai seeks to challenge stereotypes and foster inclusivity by bringing the thrill of rock climbing to a diverse range of enthusiasts.

“Jamrock” celebrates the spirit of unity and perseverance as Kai Lightner and the community navigate obstacles, forge connections, and ultimately inspire a nation to reach new heights, both on and off the climbing wall. With breathtaking landscapes, stirring personal narratives, and the universal language of sport, the film is a testament to the transformative power of passion, community, and the pursuit of one’s dreams.

The film is on a world tour and will be featured at and with more to be announced

Over the past 10 years, I’ve witnessed Sam take on some of the most impressive boulders. His meticulous approach to training emanate his personality to always go above and beyond. Armed with an arsenal of send tools that include at least 2 pads, a fan, a plethora of brushes, a selection of tapes, multiple tools for shaving skin, varying types of finger sanders, super glue, and probably a whole list of other items.

He succeeds not because he’s lucky, or naturally gifted. But because he meticulously plans and prepares to make his goals a reality.
