An unlikely setting for the soon-to-be displaced. During the final program of Volume VII: On Resistance, artists come together through modes of restriction.
On TCS’ In Conversation, we gather RESTRICT artists Dalel Bacre // arte NÓMADA, Dorian Nuskind-Oder & Simon Grenier-Poirier, and Tina Wang & Tingying Ma to talk resistance in their own words. Click on link: http://www.thecurrentsessions.com/blog1/2017/8/20/in-conversation-restrict

So much gratitude for the work of Gregory King + Megan Young - "Cloud of Whiteness"

Repost from Gregory King
When I left The Lion King, I told myself that if I were ever to perform in front of an audience, it would be in works that serve to broaden the discourse on socio-political issues. Happy to announce I have not faltered! This weekend was nothing short of magical. For a movement artist, very few things come close to performing for a packed house in New York City. Okay that was a stretch! But sharing the bill and stage of the CURRENT SESSIONS Volume VII: On Resistance, with artists doing exciting things in the field, reminded me of the power of the moving body. Collaborating with Megan Young in "Cloud of Whiteness," had allowed me to continue to question what is dance and why I dance. Physically exhausting as the work was, I am an humbled and honored to be a conduit for the much needed charge to de-center whiteness, redefine masculinity, rethink normalcy, rewrite history, reject the agenda of this inept administration, and revisit the terms under which the word "EQUAL" is used.

Read Up // Dancers on where they draw the line via Movement Research, as response to Dance Magazine's "What’s Not Okay to Ask a Dancer to Do.” :

"The fact that choreographers were privileged in a story about dancers’ boundaries speaks to a persistent problem in the dance field. While in some respects we’ve come a long way, the premise of a hierarchy in dance-making has lingered: choreographers at the top, dancers at the bottom. We’ve come to expect it; the idea is so pervasive that an omission like this one can go largely unnoticed."

One of the world’s leading laboratories for the investigation of dance and movement-based forms.

Read Up // 16 members of the White House Arts Committee has resigned via The New York Times:

"All 16 of the prominent artists, authors, performers and architects on the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities resigned on Friday, the latest group to protest Donald J. Trump’s defense of white nationalists after the violent demonstrations in Charlottesville, Va.

Created in 1982 under President Reagan to advise the White House on cultural issues, the committee is known for developing programs like Turnaround Arts, which aims to improve academic performance and increase student engagement through the arts."

Artists, authors, performers and others stepped down from the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities after Mr. Trump’s remarks about white nationalists.

Fueled By // We're 🤤 over these Pilot Kombucha flavors. Thanks for energizing our team + artists!
Pilot Kombucha was launched in March 2015 with one goal: bring gut health to the hedonistic food lovers of New York City. Today, Pilot Kombucha delivers sips that are as good for the soul as they are for the body. Using a mix of organic and fair trade ingredients and sacrificing a longer shelf-life for more nutritious bacteria, Pilot offers products you can feel good about— and which leave you feeling incredible.
