Holmes Design Everyone’s different. That’s the greatest asset you possess. And how I’ll make you shine. Webs Websites, logos, postcards, and much more.

To make an unforgettable impact on your audience, you need a design tailored to the uniqueness of you. My dual careers as graphic designer & actor tell me exactly how to turn your ideas into the final design we create together. Odds are,
if you have an idea, I can probably design it. BFA in Graphic Design: 20+ years with Grey Entertainment’s Broadway division, Off-Bway, Off-Off Bway, York Theatre

Company, The Barrow Group & others. MFA in Acting: Broadway, National Tours, regional gigs aplenty. Oh, and I also like to have a good time working on a project. Not a requisite, but it sure does makes the process a whole lot more fun.

Can we talk about this logo design by Watson and Company for ? The logo evokes the glorious sky bound ceilings and buttresses of a cathedral, while also suggesting abstract transportation lines. Those lines begin at the center, energetically widening out to points unknown. That center is the Hall itself – in the heart of New York City – and from that center one can seemingly travel anywhere. The Hall (designed by architects ) and the logo feel light as air and full of importance.

When Anne James, one of the most talented actors in our grad program (), asked me to create her website, I jumped at the opportunity to create a site which amplified this total pro's spectacular sense of kind and ferocious hilarity. Anne also can commandeer the off-kilter of any scene or character, which makes her power swings of gut wrenching fearlessness land. Hard.

We featured Anne's two distinct essences on the site. Once we had our concept, I called on my frequent collaborator — Will O'Hare Photography — to take remote photos (you heard me, and they’re remarkable). Then we amplified Anne's spectacular uniqueness throughout her site.

Your website can be EXACTLY you.

What if you're a conceptual graphic designer and you're designing a website for a conceptual creative collaborator?

Then, you leave a whole lot of room for the viewers' imagination.

Margie Zohn helps human beings achieve their next level of creative greatness. As she puts it: “People tell me stories and I help them work those stories into theatrical pieces.” To do that, this savvy collaborator utilizes psychological insight and alchemizes the project's essence. Margie's collaborations brim with boundless imagination and are created within a joyful, spirited, soul-expanding space.

When you visit margiezohn.com, you'll discover oodles of open space and tall typefaces, bold colors, and a background rhythm suggestive of active creativity. You'll find a symbolic vocabulary representative of Margie's alchemic creative process. All this allows for visitors' (her potential future collaborators') imagination to spark...

Visit the WHAT THEY SAY page and partake in slices of Margie's curated celebrations. As if to say: “We too can conceive creative inspiration together — and have a sh*tload of fun doing it!”

Your website can be EXACTLY you.

Making sure every conceptual design fits the project’s exact brief is always the goal, of course. Over time, I’ve devised an interview which ultimately lands me pretty close to the bullseye.

When interviewing Lauren Letellier for her one woman show, THE VILLAGE CIDIOT, here’s some of the illustrative vocabulary we compiled:
Looking Back
Reflected
Edge of NY
Poignant
Terrifying
Sharply Funny
Framing Her Own Life
and
Old Christmas Tree Farm

From these words came the concept and sketch, and we were off!
As someone who’d never heard of the term, “Cidiot” (you may not have either, unless you live in Hillsdale, NY) I knew we had a possibly confusing title. So we made it clearly readable and slightly reminiscent of a (snowy) scary movie and THE VILLAGE CIDIOT key art was born.

Your key art can be EXACTLY you.

If you’re lucky enough to have a collaborator like Matt Hoverman, you’re doin’ okay in this world. Matt and I met on tour with The Acting Companyand became fast friends. Matt’s now an Emmy-Award winning writer with a stable of fantastic work. I like to say his writer’s voice is part Chris Durang, part Sam Shepherd. In Matt’s stage plays, the truthful swings from hilarious to disturbing fly fast and furiously.

His latest play is “Puck’d: A Middle-Aged Summer Night’s Dream” - a sequel to the Bard’s fanciful comedy, is written in (mostly) rhyming couplets, and addresses questions of waning love in our non-fairy world and what kind of “magic” might make love bloom anew. It’s also got tragedy and LOTS of cheese references. December 2023, “Puck’d” received a stellar reading in NYC with our friends at The Acting Company, was directed by John Rando and featured a slew of seriously funny folks.

When creating key art for a work in the readings/workshop/development stage, I believe you’re looking to best encapsulate the energy of the world of the play at THAT STAGE of the your process. When you’re courting producers or getting investors interested, you always want to leave room for their imagination to flourish within your created world.

This design for “Puck’d” is not the Broadway front of house signage, but the design meant to inhabit potential investors’ imagination. Though, I’m very much looking forward to creating that Broadway signage!

Your logo can be EXACTLY you.

9 times out of 10, when I design someone's website, my clients land jobs towards the end of our collaboration. I believe that's because whomever I’m working with energetically motivates as they'll soon have a new home base that EXACTLY represents their talent and energy.

Pj Sosko and I began acting together Naked Angels 's long-running writer's program, Tuesdays@9, usually reading the written brilliance of Matt Hoverman. Creating PJ's website, we worked tirelessly to represent his commanding magnetism, his intensity and animalistic ability/agility, and his easy access to heartbreak and sweet, euphoric love of fruity drinks. We also set up a strong foundation which conveyed his rock-hard professionalism which lies beneath his (seemingly) wild artistic impressionism.

PJ's energy would be right at home in Scorsese's films. Following our process together, PJ was cast in "Killers of the Flower Moon". He couldn't take it because of prior filming commitments, but we got there — and damn quick too! Visit pjsosko.com for a stopover into the wild mind of PJ Sosko.

Your website can be exactly YOU.

Oh, the typography of London! Lots of attention to words and letterforms. Much of it from the “Arts and Crafts” period.*
(*Arts & Crafts fonts are styled after the designs pioneered by William Morris. From the 1860s to the early 1900s, this design style was a transition from Victorian to modern designs.)

Gorgeous! Don’t forget to look up!
