“Have you seen her all in gold?
Like a queen in days of old
She shoots colours all around
Like a sunset going down
Have you seen a lady fairer?“

Girls, they rule the world! Just a Friday shout out to all the inspiring women around me…

Nothing beats a luminous spring day in 🗽 NYC, especially when you fly in to see the premier of an artist you have been writing and researching for almost a year! Seeing the Sandy Rodriguez exhibition “Tierra Insurgente” Hispanic Society and meeting the inspiring people behind this prescient exhibit has been the most extraordinary art event of my year. 🌼After a complicated and challenging March, I’m especially grateful for this moment—the joy of staying with my old friend and co conspirator Charmaine Picard and celebrating new ones in a city that always feels like a homecoming.
If you’re in 🍎New York this season RUN to see this exhibition—it opens today!!! Come for Rodriguez’s show, and stay for the room filled with life-size panels by my favorite 19th-century artist, Joaquín Sorolla. Also check out Center for Art, Research and Alliances which has maybe the best indie art book selection ever their current exhibition “The Earth, the Fire, the Water, and the Winds: For a Museum of Errantry with Édouard Glissant.”

It was a good day to arrive in New York City. No one expected me. Everything awaited me”
Thank you NYC🗽❤️and 🐸🪻gracias spring for always delivering renewal.

Thank you for my feature as the Alumni Spotlight series for the This Week . The article discusses how I galvanized the “critical thinking and cultural perspective developed at Meadows into a global career in the arts.

Here is a snippet of this thoughtful piece from my beloved alma mater!
As an art historian I have a deep reverence for the artist process and I would see people fly through exhibitions without pausing to learn more about the history and context,” Pesantes explains. “Framing art in a more critical context enhances the appreciation and experience.”

That philosophy ultimately led her to found Miami Art Hang, an immersive arts experience designed to decode the city’s rapidly evolving art scene. The afternoon-long program combines guided museum and gallery visits with private studio tours where participants meet both established and emerging artists.

Pesantes also works as an art advisor and writer, and her advocacy for deeper engagement with art has led to multiple curatorial opportunities, including three exhibitions she organized in the past year.

Today, Pesantes continues to build connections across artists, collectors and cultural institutions while expanding the reach of Miami Art Hang. Her work reflects a lifelong commitment to thoughtful art engagement, one that began in Meadows classrooms and now shapes how audiences experience art in one of the country’s most dynamic cultural cities.

Happy almost Spring Equinox- this season in lieu of the Easter Bunny and its pastel-colored eggs, on this Equinox I feel like this Mesopotamian goddess of love, fertility, and war is more in tune with our current global state of affairs. She is a deity of paradoxes, linked to the planet Venus and known as the “Queen of Heaven or Queen of Death,” embodying both creativity and love as well as destruction, conflict and power.

essay linked in stories and bio)

Her myth of descent and return from the underworld is intrinsically tied to the Spring Equinox. Representing the renewal of life, and her resurrection (just like Jesus’) mirrors nature awakening from winter, and symbolizes life’s triumphs over death. She reminds us that death is not the strongest force in the universe, thus she is emblematic of hope. Like many art historical goddesses, she is a pivotal figure in fertility-focused springtime celebrations, as her return brings agricultural renewal to earth after the cold winter.

Sumerian iconography aside, it has been a while since I have written here, but I have started and stopped this post many times. Truth be told, the political situation in the United States is excruciatingly exhausting. Plus, I have decided to no longer adhere to the BS of “new year/new me” and the fabricated need to turn the page on Jan. 1st and go full steam ahead into a new year. So with the Spring Equinox on the horizon I decided to just publish this draft regardless of its randomness.

Now, why I refuse to adhere to the idea of newness…

Winter is a season of rest, it is associated with dormancy, reflection, and decay. I have made a vow to start paying attention to my internal clock and the seasons, even though I live in Florida where they are barely pronounced. So many people around me are burnt out, yet on social media we have a compulsive need to perform, and we are so indoctrinated with this idea of progress and speed that we feel guilt when resting. But true creativity demands stillness.
