I wanted to share this photo of my father’s unit. This project actually started with him—it was his dream to create a place for his brothers-in-arms to stay connected. Sadly, he passed away before he could see it come to life. I made it my mission to fulfill that dream and build it in his honor.

Trump just put 38,000 US troops on the table.

Tagesschau, FAZ and Spiegel are all reporting it: the White House is reviewing whether to pull American forces out of Germany. A decision will come "in Kürze," Trump told reporters on Tuesday. There are bases in Ramstein, Stuttgart, Wiesbaden, Vilseck, Spangdahlem. Some of them have been in Germany longer than most of us have been alive.

What set this off: Friedrich Merz publicly criticized Trump's handling of the Iran war. The reporting frames the troop review as retaliation. "Apparently Trump wants to punish the chancellor for his critical tones," FAZ wrote.

If you live anywhere near a US base, you already know how much of the local economy runs on those soldiers, their families, and the German civilians employed on the bases. If you don't, the bigger question is what 38,000 fewer NATO troops at Germany's eastern doorstep looks like, with Russia where it is and the Bundeswehr still rebuilding.

This is still a review, not a decision. But the decision is supposed to come soon.
