Showing up sometimes looks a little different.

After foot surgery, I’m grateful to be back supporting one of my clients at today’s North Augusta Chamber of Commerce Power Lunch. While I’m taking it easy, it felt good to see so many familiar faces and spend time with a community that’s been incredibly supportive.

One of the things I love most about running Smith-McGee Designs is that I’m more than a designer. I get to be a partner, a collaborator, and an advocate for my clients. Sometimes that means creating marketing materials behind the scenes. Other times, it means being present for the events that help them build relationships and strengthen their communities.

A special thank you to everyone who made today a little easier—from opening doors and carrying things to checking in on me and making sure I didn’t overdo it. Those small acts of kindness meant more than you know.

Business is built on relationships, and today was a wonderful reminder that the best part of this work is the people.

Thanks to Uline sending a catalog, I just learned I have a Shipping Department with a Manager! As I was looking around the house, I mean office, for the Shipping Department and calling out for its manager, Scrappy appeared.

As such, Scrappy Doo has been named our Employee of the Month for April... although his work ethic does leaves a LOT to be desired (outside of his overly enthusiastic job as the house alarm, which he does annoyingly well). Please join us (me) in congratulating him. He enjoys Pupperonies, DentaSticks, and barking at the wind.

I’m currently working with Second Step For Warriors, a small, grassroots nonprofit run by just a handful of dedicated volunteers—and I can tell you firsthand, they are doing meaningful, hands-on work for our local veterans.

What started as collecting clothing for veterans (including interview attire) has grown into helping with transportation, medical needs, and everyday essentials as they transition into civilian life.

They don’t have a big team. They don’t have a big budget. But they do have a big mission and they need community support.

I’ve starting seeing more and more AI-generated logos and graphics lately, and honestly? The majority of them look the same.
