Did you know that grapes can thrive in New Hampshire? We were surprised, too!

Although our climate may not immediately come to mind when you picture wine country, the right location, carefully selected grape varieties, and thoughtful farming can produce beautiful fruit right here in the Granite State.

These vines are a wonderful reminder of the diversity and potential of New Hampshire agriculture—and of how much there is still to discover about food and beverages being grown and produced in our own communities.

Swipe through for a closer look at New Hampshire grape growing, from the vineyard to the harvest. 🍇

September brings an incredible abundance to New Hampshire farms. Sweet peppers are bursting with color, eggplants of every shape and variety are thriving, greens are plentiful, garlic is ready to flavor the meals ahead, and freshly dug potatoes are making their way from the fields to our tables.

It’s also time to begin preserving the harvest for the colder months—whether you’re freezing, canning, pickling, fermenting, or turning fresh vegetables into sauces, soups, and other freezer-ready favorites.

How are you processing and preserving your vegetables this season? Share your favorite methods—or your best recipes—in the comments below!

Not every vegetable grown on a local farm makes it to market—and there’s a reason for that.
Local farmers can harvest at peak ripeness and choose varieties for their flavor and quality, rather than their ability to travel thousands of miles or sit in storage for weeks.
That means every tomato, carrot, pepper and cucumber that reaches your kitchen represents some of the best the season and soil have to offer.
It’s one of the many benefits of buying local: fresher food, exceptional flavor and farmers who can focus on what tastes good—not what ships well. 🌱🥕🍅

Who works on Labor Day?

As we celebrate the holiday, it’s worth remembering the people whose labor sustains our food system—and whose work feeds us every day.

The labor movement that gave many workers this day off is far from complete. Historically, farm and food workers have been excluded from basic workplace protections, including overtime pay, collective bargaining rights and, in some cases, minimum-wage requirements.

Farm work is essential work. Yet the people behind our food are often invisible to consumers.

Farm and food workers deserve the same dignity, rights and protections afforded to all workers.

Today, we recognize, celebrate and thank everyone whose labor continues—even on Labor Day. 💚

🎰 Roulette rutabagas. Blackjack beets. Poker potatoes. Keno kale.... no matter what you're betting on, if you placed your bet with Revo Casino, we are grateful. 🥬

Thanks to our incredible partnership with Revo Casino and Social House, we raised an astounding $39,180.64 for MWVEG!

For a small nonprofit focused on strengthening our regional food system, this is a truly transformative amount of funding. It will allow us to expand access to fresh, healthy, locally grown food; connect more residents with local farms; support our hardworking farmers; and begin doing work we have dreamed about for more than a decade.

We are deeply grateful to Revo Casino and Social House for investing in our mission—and to everyone who participated in the Rebels With a Cause fundraiser. You helped make this extraordinary achievement possible.

From all of us at MWVEG: thank you for betting on local food and our community. 💚

As Labor Day approaches, our local farmers are laboring away—harvesting the food that will nourish our community in the months ahead. 🥔💪

But farming doesn’t always happen alone. Harvesting potatoes as a group is just one of the many ways our farmers come together to share the workload, and support one another through the busiest days of the season.

When you choose locally grown food, you’re supporting the people who work tirelessly to bring it from their fields to our tables.

Here’s to our farmers—and the many hands that make the harvest possible. 🌱
