What does your branding say about your business? Is it memorable? Does it create a lasting impression on potential clients/customers?

First, you need a strong image that conveys the feelings you want associated with your business, its name and symbolism.

Graphic images with icons are always nice if you can design a really nice, symbolic one.

Or, if you’re going simply with a type treatment (text only) then choose a main font(s) that conveys some feeling about your business or the name.

Here’s an example. When I named my business “MindSurf”:

I chose “Mind” for the strategy I do for each project and solid thinking. I chose “Surf” for the “surfing” we all do online… since my agency specializes in websites and everything Internet.

And I chose to have both names as one word with initial cap for “Surf” because they belong together. You cannot have a successful project without solid strategy!

Next, what about colors?

What do you want your colors to say about your business?

One suggestion is to stay away from too much red. Red can be “danger, stop, anger, embarrassment or caution.”

Though depending on who you speak to, some believe the opposite is true… that red is one of the top colors that represent strength. Go figure?!

If you decide to do your branding yourself, please be careful. Do tons of research.

If possible, it’s always better to hire a professional to help.
Just be careful that your branding looks professional, smart and current.

If you’re looking to hire help, please do your research… look at the designer’s portfolio. Make sure that the designer is up to your high standards and capable of making your company look fantastic!

Many people don’t realize all the elements it takes for a GREAT & SUCCESSFUL website. It’s not as simple as you may think. To begin, it takes specific elements to make a good design, a WOW design. Does the design complement your brand? Does the logo look great or is it old, out-of-place like an amateur put it together? You would be surprised at how often this is overlooked.

Is there enough animation to give the site a 3-D effect without being annoying? Too much animation is not only very distracting, it’s nauseating! What about the navigation? Is it intuitive, easy to use and easy to find elements within the site? Or, is it like a treasure map on drugs?

Let’s not forget about the copy… it is the MOST OVERLOOKED aspect of a website. Don't skimp here. The right copy, in the most user-friendly, web-style copywriting goes a long way towards making your site a real success!

Have you ever tried placing brochure copy or business-style copy into your website? How’d that work for you? Not so great I bet. That’s because the best style of copywriting for a website IS web-style! It’s been proven over decades of trial and error by all the experts.

Effective website content differs from other forms of copywriting in different ways. For example:
1. Shorter sentences… 75 words instead of 150
2. More to the point
3. Write simply in everyday language
4. Avoid “marketingese” (unless it’s a landing page)
5. Most important thoughts first on top
6. Keywords & headers
7. Shorter paragraphs
8. Create “skim friendly” text
9. Use bullets to break up the copy
10. Write for user experience.

If you have any old Gmail email accounts that have been unused for a while, please pay attention. If you currently own names worth saving, don't risk losing them! If Google deletes them for inactivity, they will be up for grabs... maybe by your competition!

ON MAY 16, Google announced new plans to delete accounts that have been inactive for two years, as well as accounts that were created and never used (or used only briefly). Got an ancient Gmail account gathering cobwebs or a Google Photos account storing vacation pics from years past? It’s time to start looking around for those login credentials. If you haven't signed in within the past two years, your account and everything it contains could be deleted starting as soon as December.
