"THE DISCOVERY" - Wabash Museum Video Production
Volunteer Positions Available
Are you interested in film production? Want real hands-on experience on a professional video shoot?
Up There Media is producing a fundraiser video for The Wabash Museum, and we're looking for high school and college students to join our crew as volunteers.

What You'll Do:
Shadow professional cinematographers and directors
Assist with lighting, camera setup, and audio
Help manage production logistics and equipment
Gain real-world video production experience
Work on a project that matters (supporting your local museum)

Time Commitment:
2-3 days of filming (flexible scheduling)
Training provided before shoot day
Estimated 6-8 hours per day

What You'll Learn:
How professional video production actually works
Camera operation and lighting techniques
Directing actors and managing on-set logistics
Post-production workflow (if interested)
Real portfolio material for college/career applications

Requirements:
Genuine interest in film/video production/photography
Reliable and punctual
Able to follow direction and work as part of a team
Willingness to do unglamorous work (moving cables, adjusting lights, etc.)

Why location scouting matters (and why skipping it costs you):

When you show up to film without scouting:
❌ Surprise obstacles you didn’t plan for
❌ Lighting you didn’t anticipate
❌ Audio problems (HVAC, traffic, noise)
❌ No backup spots if something doesn’t work
❌ Wasted time problem-solving on set
❌ Stressed talent and crew
❌ Compromised final product

When you scout first:
✅ You know the light at 3pm on a Tuesday
✅ You find the best angles before shoot day
✅ You identify power outlets, HVAC, noise issues
✅ You have backup locations ready
✅ You plan your crew and gear accordingly

A gimbal gives you smooth, flowing movement great for following action and capturing energy. But a slider gives you something gimbal can't: perfectly consistent, repeatable movement.

With a slider:
Every frame glides at exactly the same speed
Your composition stays locked and intentional
You can execute the same shot multiple times identically
Professional B-roll has that cinematic precision

With a gimbal:
More freedom and flexibility
Better for following unpredictable action
Organic, natural-looking movement
Great for documentary-style work

The takeaway: Both tools are essential. Sliders create that polished, controlled look. Gimbals create that dynamic, engaging feel.
