Nobody warns you about the zen-master poker face you slowly develop after year three of running an agency.

A client emails at 4:59pm on a Friday with 'Hey! Quick change, shouldn't take long!' and something inside you quietly leaves your body. But your fingers? Your fingers type back 'On it, no worries at all!' with the serene calm of a Buddhist monk on a mountainside.

The internal experience is more like a Waffle House at 2am. But the external experience? Completely unbothered professional who has absolutely everything under control.

That gap between what your face is doing and what your nervous system is doing is the real skill they don't teach in any business course. That's the thing you can't put on a resume.

The analogies are endless. SEO is one of the few careers where you are at the mercy of a giant global corporation that keeps shifting the goalposts and doesn't even tell you they moved it. Every new update, minor or major, can change what works and what hurts a website's rankings. Google keeps the algorithm secret. This leaves us having to read through patents, constantly test things, and see what other SEOs are testing and seeing. I learned early on as an SEO that you can't even trust what Google officially says, as they tend to put out disinformation. So yea, hide and seek but the damn house keeps moving.

The forms on your website are one of the most important conversion elements. Imagine you put all this thought and effort into the customer journey, and then they get to the form and don't fill it out. All that effort went to waste.

I can't tell you how many forms I see on websites that don't follow best practices. Little changes can have a huge effect. Changing the send button from submit to something better, adding autofill, adding social proof and trust badges are all ways you can improve your form conversions.

Optimize Headers: So many sites I audit have seriously messed up headers. Hierarchy is important here. There should only be 1 H1 per page, and it should be your best keyword + your geographic area.

Load Speed: If your website takes longer than 3 seconds to load, you are losing a ton of potential business. Use GTMetrix and Google PageSpeed Insights to see how your site loads. Solution vary depending on the platform the site is built on.
