Perhaps it’s my own bias, but words don’t get enough credit. Branding agencies charge tens of thousands of dollars for what amounts to choosing a font and some colors off a wheel; PR specialists pour months of work into research, market insights and best practices; and social media strategists can’t wait to tell you about the latest trends and targeting tactics. There’s nothing wrong with any of that, mind you, but when all those things line up – the cool logo, the detailed plan, the carefully-selected and masterfully-targeted audience is mapped out – what actually happens? Our job in advertising, plain and simple, is this: Get noticed. Nothing else matters. And in a world of perfect Instagram moments, focus-group-tested talking points and committee-crafted core values (take a drink every time you hear a company say their values are “integrity,” “hard work” and “family”), no one’s looking anymore. Because for all the effort we put into getting in front of people, when we finally do, we have nothing to say. And after 10+ years at four award-winning agencies, it just seemed like everybody was missing the obvious: Words matter.
So here we are: Mattersword. It’s my way of trying to put words – our most powerful weapon, our most prized possession – front and center for a change. We’ll partner up with some of the best and brightest creative and PR minds out there whenever it’s helpful to build a complete picture, but here at Mattersword, we’re all words.
Let’s talk. Let’s partner. Let’s build something great together. Let’s put something out into the world and see what happens. Let’s go.
