We’re a humble team of ::reviews census data:: six, and we’re set for a bit. But lucky you: The fine humans at are hiring a Senior Marketing Strategist, and you can’t ask for nicer coworkers than , , , , , .rich, and the rest of their team. So if you want Freestyle to help you feed your family (human or otherwise), reach out to them! And for what it’s worth, you can always reach out to us, too. For a job? No. But for friendship, therapy, or privately violating your nondisparagement agreement? Absolutely yes.

You have entered Appi's Landing, a secret world hidden within Mario Kart: Coin Edition. It's a natural fitting for The Toads (an early name given to their creative team back in the Oklahoma City Community College days), and this map is FULL of easter eggs in the cracks of the walls.

Some lore:
• Abbie was born in 1990, making her nearly as ancient a relic as the Mario characters themselves. (Erick was born in 1985, which...I mean...who can even remember what life was like back then?)

• The Toads were given as a gift to everyone on the creative team in 2020, during the height of COVID-19. Erick masked up and went to *eight* different stores to track down enough toad action figures to give to everyone on the team.

• Like all Mario Kart levels, Appi's Landing features obstacles ("tasks"), opponents ("time)", and trophies ("ADDYs"). But unlike standard Mario Kart levels, Appi's Landing doesn't allow bananas on the road — they are instead mixed in with peanut butter and whey protein at Bee Healthy Cafe to form the ultimate Coin power-up.

Anyway so that's that.

A recipient of both an ADDY and a Marketing Excellence Award, this brand for Coffee Gallery Jonesboro was an effort to carve out a lifestyle brand in a fun, funky college town saturated with big coffee chains and local powerhouses.

A Jonesboro Original became its tagline, a chance to remind customers they're community-supported and family-owned. Though the name itself had no prior meaning, it works perfectly to identify a place where, much like an art museum, people gather to enjoy a curated and elevated experience.

If you ever find yourself in or around this part of Arkansas, grab your favorite coffee, tea, or smoothie in one of their kickass cups, and show off the brand around town like a local who knows where to go.

And then there was Mattersword.

Perhaps it’s my own bias, but words don’t get enough credit. Branding agencies charge tens of thousands of dollars for what amounts to choosing a font and some colors off a wheel; PR specialists pour months of work into research, market insights and best practices; and social media strategists can’t wait to tell you about the latest trends and targeting tactics. There’s nothing wrong with any of that, mind you, but when all those things line up – the cool logo, the detailed plan, the carefully-selected and masterfully-targeted audience is mapped out – what actually happens? Our job in advertising, plain and simple, is this: Get noticed. Nothing else matters. And in a world of perfect Instagram moments, focus-group-tested talking points and committee-crafted core values (take a drink every time you hear a company say their values are “integrity,” “hard work” and “family”), no one’s looking anymore. Because for all the effort we put into getting in front of people, when we finally do, we have nothing to say. And after 10+ years at four award-winning agencies, it just seemed like everybody was missing the obvious: Words matter.

So here we are: Mattersword. It’s my way of trying to put words – our most powerful weapon, our most prized possession – front and center for a change. We’ll partner up with some of the best and brightest creative and PR minds out there whenever it’s helpful to build a complete picture, but here at Mattersword, we’re all words.

Let’s talk. Let’s partner. Let’s build something great together. Let’s put something out into the world and see what happens. Let’s go.
