End Grain, Traditional Grain & Charcuterie—what’s the difference?
We get this question often, so let’s break it down:
🔪 End-Grain Cutting Boards
Take a closer look and you’ll see the growth rings facing upward. Think of the wood fibers like a bundle of straws: your knife moves between the fibers instead of repeatedly cutting across them, making it gentler on your knives and helping the surface “self-heal.” These boards are thicker, more labor-intensive and built for serious everyday chopping.
🥕 Traditional Grain: Often called face-grain or edge-grain boards, the grain runs across the surface. It’s great for everyday prep, though cutting marks may become more visible over time.
🧀 Charcuterie: Made for serving cheeses, meats and all the snackies—not daily chopping.
At Sawdust Dreams, we specialize exclusively in handcrafted end-grain boards because beautiful is lovely—but beautiful, functional and built to last is even better.
