I got my first content partnerships before I ever wrote a single blog.

To get started, all I did was reach out to small brands in my niche that looked like they needed some help promoting their products.

I would offer to create content for my blog in exchange for the product for free.

While I initially started with free partnerships I eventually leveraged those into paid content partnerships.

And even without a large following or significant website traffic, I was still able to convince brands to work with me.

This helped accelerate the growth of my blog in 2 ways:

1) It funded the time and effort investment it takes to create high-quality content for my blog.

2) I was able to piggyback off the brand’s audience when they promoted the content we created together to grow my own audience, especially my email list.

And because I was being paid to create the content for my blog, I was able to re-invest that into growing my audience through additional partnerships.

I call it the “Reverse-Exposure Method” and this is how it works:

1) Identify Facebook Groups, pages, social accounts, email lists, and other websites you can pay to get your content re-published.

2) Budget a portion of your paid partnerships to run this paid traffic to the content you create for them.

3) Use this data in your ‘Partnership Deck’ to increase the value of your content partnership packages.

I do this in almost every collaboration I have done.

Sending all the referral traffic from brands and paid traffic to my blog helped me grow my audience faster than relying on Google Search traffic or a social media following.

This is how I grew my blog’s revenue to $100k+ in the first 12 months.

And it has continued to work for me for over a decade now.
