🎣 Branding Breakdown: World’s Biggest Fish Fry Trademarks
Since it’s Fish Fry week here in Paris, I wanted to provide some technical clarity on the branding and trademark side of the event. As a designer, I think it’s important to understand what is actually on file and how these protections work.
The Official Filings (Tennessee State Level):
The "World's Biggest Fish Fry" currently holds two primary Tennessee State Trademarks:
Mark TMI00026: Protects the literal words "WORLD'S BIGGEST FISH FRY."
Mark TMI00102: Protects the specific logo (the hooked fish with the Paris banner).
Key Technical Facts:
State vs. Federal: These are registered with the Tennessee Secretary of State, not at a federal level. "World's Biggest Fish Fry" is a descriptive term, which often makes federal registration difficult. State registration provides legal protection for the brand specifically within Tennessee borders.
Class 25: These marks are registered under Class 25, which specifically covers Clothing. This is the legal basis for the "Official" merchandise.
Renewal Cycle: In Tennessee, these are 5-year registrations. The most recent filings were processed in March 2025, keeping the name and logo protected through 2030.
The Designer’s Take:
This is a perfect example of why unique, custom marks are vital for any organization. By registering the name and a specific, custom-drawn logo, the Jaycees have a clear legal baseline to enforce their brand within the state.
Just providing some transparency and facts from the design desk! 🐟🍟
