There’s a pretty clear theme running through this week’s business news.

People matter. Trust matters. What your company stands for matters.

Companies are pouring billions into AI while roughly 90% of executives say it hasn’t boosted productivity at their companies yet. Meta reportedly explored cutting some teams by as much as 60% in its push to become “AI native,” only to pull back as employee morale sank and the technology failed to deliver the gains leadership expected.

Meta is also paying $18 billion to settle claims that its platforms were intentionally designed in ways that harmed young users.

Marketing is telling a similar story.

Wendy’s leadership says the company became too reliant on one-off promotions and collaborations instead of consistently communicating what the brand actually stands for.

Newman’s Own is taking the opposite approach. It’s leaning harder into something it has done for decades, giving 100% of its profits to help kids in need.

There’s a lesson here for small businesses.
If tired promotions and disconnected marketing aren’t working for companies with enormous budgets, they definitely aren’t going to work better for the little guys.

Do good work. Treat people well. Support your community. Stand for something. Give people a reason to feel good about giving you their money.
As purchasing power increasingly shifts toward younger Gen X, millennials and Gen Z, people are paying attention to the businesses behind what they buy.

Doing the right thing was already the right move. Turns out, it can be pretty good business too.
Follow Trade Guild Consulting. We’re digging through the business headlines and bringing you the ones worth knowing.

August 26, 1920 changed what participation looked like for millions of American women.

The 19th Amendment went into effect after generations of women fought to be heard, represented, and counted.

That right should never be treated casually.

Strong communities are built by people who show up and take part in shaping what comes next.

Remember the women who fought for that voice.

Use yours.

How many things did you do today that you also did yesterday?

Small tasks have a sneaky way of eating up a LOT of time when you’re running a business. Writing the same emails, answering the same questions, following the same steps, sending the same reminders… it adds up.

You don’t need a complicated system to start getting some of that time back.

A simple checklist can keep you from starting from scratch. A saved email can become a template. A recurring reminder can be automated. The goal is to make the things you already do easier the next time around.

This week’s business tip walks through a few simple places to start.

Take a look, then pick ONE repetitive task to make easier this week. Your future self will appreciate it.

Need help figuring out what you can simplify or automate? Give Trade Guild Consulting a call at (813) 728-0853. We’re always happy to sit down, look at what you’re doing, and help you find a better way.

We’ve been digging through the business headlines again!

This week’s stories have a surprisingly consistent theme. Trust is easy to talk about when it’s convenient. What businesses do when they have another option tells you a lot more.

More than 80% of consumers say they’ve watched video content they suspected was AI-generated, and 36% say AI-generated video lowers their perception of the brand behind it. AI can make content faster, but replacing your customers, employees, and real stories with things that never happened can come with a cost.

Liquid Death and Garage B**r went in almost the exact opposite direction. They took a serious conversation about AI data centers and water consumption, added Jason Kelce, a couple jars of p*e, and created something ridiculous, memorable, and completely consistent with both brands.

Former Meta safety engineer Arturo Béjar testified that Meta’s focus on usership and revenue made meaningful safety changes difficult, even as internal research identified risks to teens. Growth matters, but so does what you’re willing to sacrifice to get it.

Target and Walmart are also seeing major benefits from tariff refunds, and they’re far from the only companies getting that money back. There’s currently no broad requirement forcing businesses to pass those refunds along to the consumers who may have already absorbed higher prices.

Different stories. Same underlying lesson.

People are paying attention to how businesses use technology, how they treat customers, and whether their actions line up with the things they say they value.

We’ll keep digging through the headlines and bringing you the ones worth knowing.

A strong business should leave its community better than it found it.

That can look like volunteering your time, supporting a local cause, serving on a board, mentoring someone, sponsoring a community event, or simply showing up when people need help.

Those efforts matter on their own. They also give people a chance to understand the person behind the business.

Your community may know your company name without really knowing what you do, why you do it, or what you value. Getting involved changes that. It creates real conversations and gives people a clearer sense of how you show up when there’s nothing to sell.

That matters because people pay attention to values. Customers want to know who they’re doing business with, especially in the communities where relationships carry weight.

Community involvement can build trust in a way advertising never will.

Keep raising your standards for what it means to be a good business owner. Growth matters, but so does contribution.

Start close to home. That’s usually where the impact is easiest to see.

You know that person you met at a networking event a few weeks ago and thought, “I really need to follow up with them”?

Yep. Them.

Following up sounds simple until you’re staring at their contact information wondering what to say without making it weird or sounding like you’re immediately trying to sell them something.

The good news is you don’t need a pitch. Just continue the conversation.

Mention something you talked about. Send them something they might find useful. Connect with their business online. Invite them to grab coffee. No response right away? Don’t take it personally. People are busy.

This week’s marketing tip has a few practical ways to follow up, stay connected, and keep a good relationship growing without becoming the person they start avoiding.

Have a networking situation you’re not quite sure how to handle? Give us a call at (813) 728-0853. Sometimes it helps to have someone to bounce ideas off of, and we’re always happy to help.

Marketing can feel frustrating when you’re doing the right things and the results still aren’t showing up as quickly as you hoped.

Followers take time to build. Trust takes time to earn. A strong reputation takes time to develop. Referral networks grow through repeated good experiences and real relationships, not a single campaign.

Gathering useful data takes time too. A few clicks or a handful of leads usually won’t tell you enough to make a smart decision about what’s working.

The hard part is knowing when to stay patient and when to change course.

Marketing isn’t an exact science. Every business, industry, audience, and offer behaves a little differently. A good strategy leaves room to test, learn, and adjust as the evidence comes in.

Keep building the audience. Keep earning trust. Keep collecting the right data. Keep refining what you’re doing.

Every week, we dig through the headlines so you don’t have to.

There are thousands of business stories published every day. Most won’t affect your business. Some absolutely will. Our job is helping you separate the noise from the stories worth paying attention to.

This week’s roundup covered a lot of ground.

Hillsborough County is slowing down AI data center development while it creates regulations to address water use, power demands, noise, and environmental impacts before new projects move forward.

Flock Safety’s AI camera network is facing new scrutiny as questions shift beyond privacy and toward whether some roadside installations meet basic crash safety standards.

An Indiana data center construction project accidentally knocked out four tornado warning sirens just before severe weather arrived, sparking conversations about backup systems and protecting critical infrastructure.

Buc-ee’s is taking legal action against a family-owned Ohio convenience store over its logo. The owner says he was never contacted before the lawsuit was filed, raising questions about how companies balance trademark protection with public perception.

The European Union now requires businesses to clearly label AI-generated content, reinforcing that transparency is becoming an expectation as AI becomes part of everyday business.

Business doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Changes in technology, regulations, customer expectations, and even local development can shape the way we all operate.

We’ll keep watching the headlines and sharing the stories that are worth your time.

“I don’t know what to post.”

If we had a dollar for every time we’ve heard that, we’d probably have enough to take you all out to a nice dinner at Burn's Steak House.

The good news is you don’t have to reinvent the wheel every time you sit down to create content.

Think about the conversations you have with customers every day. What questions do they ask? What mistakes do they make? What do you find yourself explaining over and over again?

There’s a good chance your next social media post, blog, or video is already sitting in one of those conversations.

We put together this week’s marketing tip to help you start looking at your business a little differently. Hopefully, it takes some of the stress out of wondering what to post next.

Give the carousel a swipe, then start your own running list of content ideas. You’ll be surprised how quickly it grows.

If you ever need help turning those ideas into a marketing plan or just want to bounce an idea off someone, give us a call at (813) 728-0853. We’re always happy to help, because we succeed when small businesses succeed.
