When is a Writing Course, more than video trainings plus lessons to download?
Those are truly important. Though, the personal interaction is a private group is ‘more’.
That’s why I added the Writing Sanctuary.
It’s a place where we gather, if we can, when we can. The Writing Prompts are given on Saturdays, usually. Sometimes we have a Guest come in to offer the Writing Prompt.
It’s not about a ‘performance’, it’s about taking on a writing challenge.

Last week, I offered a marketing prompt.. yes, writing is involved in selling what you Do, Create or Offer. I do have a segment in my course for Marketing.
I teach it.
Here’s the thing, I don’t believe in loud, crass marketing techniques.
I worked in Retail for 30+ years. *believe me, I didn’t dance, sing loud songs or use Tactics to make sales.
So last week in the Writing Sanctuary, the Writing Prompt was
‘How would you Sell me this Blue Hydrangea?’
Some used the technique I call- ‘Become a Trusted Resource’
Another used to great effect - ‘Show up to Give’
*for the hydrangea, it was ‘Care Instructions’
Others used this technique- ‘Storytelling is the Darling of Marketing’.
This was our first ‘Writing for Marketing’ prompt.
Was it boring? Anything but boring.
It was lively and fun with lots of cheerleading and ‘let me give it another try’.
It was Confidence Building.

This post should come with a Warning.. ‘incoming southern humor!’ June is the month of weddings.. it’s what leads up to it? Umhmm.
Our Southern Mothers..
Chances are she has a direct line to State Archives, the Pardon and Parole Board or knows ‘his people’ personally (and has already formed an opinion on his family tree!)
There’s no use ‘sneaking around’ dating someone, because as she has reminded you since you were in a playpen-
‘I have eyes in the back of my head, so you better behave!’ She may barely be 5 feet tall in her stocking feet, still - it’s a fearsome thing to face an Inquisition by Southern Mothers.
Trying to change. Her opinion . is honestly, a near impossibility.
And, there no use asking, ‘How did she come up with that?’ Or worse- ‘How could she possibly Know that!’
Today, straight from the archives of my blog, ‘Camellia’s Cottage’ which is 10 years old! I’m sharing a little bit of humor with you!
I hope you laugh, because darling- it’s no laughing matter to Southern Daughters.
And, these aren’t All of them either..
Though, do tell - Did your Momma ask You questions like this?
Then add sweetly, ‘I’m just trying to help you make good decisions.’
It’s a wonder, any southern bride actually made it to the altar- in June or Any Time 🤭

‘Write what you Do in one Sentence’.
That was the Writing Challenge, I failed.
I’ve been Writing publicly for over a decade. A published book, an award winning blog for 10 years.. confine me to just One Sentence?
Okay, it took me 2 sentences- word heavy sentences. 🤭
Why?
I realized that over 50 Creatives - our work is never ‘just one thing’.
Years.. Layers of Experiences, Life Lessons and Stories…
Can’t fit into ‘just a sentence’. Right?
Oooh… We could do it. Though it would be Boring.
(I am a Writer, I teach..) 🤭 As an elevator pitch?
Who would hire me based on that? 🤭

Confining your genius into a few words or phases? That’s downright scary. And, not Enough…
if you Struggle to find the Confidence to write about what you Do, Create or Offer-
You don’t need a formula, an elevator pitch or one highly edited sentence.
It’s in the details you notice..
It’s in the Stories you tell..

We All have our Process. No matter what we Do, Create or Offer.
I wrote a Book, a Blog (for 10 years this year!) and a weekly Newsletter.
Not to mention Writing Content almost daily here.
Plus, I created ‘Writing Content with Confidence’ for Creatives who know they Need to Write,
but sometimes they get stuck Or they write a caption- then delete it or worse- worry about hitting ‘Share’ or ‘Publish’. I get it.
So, this is my Teaching Style too.
Ok. You caught me. 🫣
This is my Ideal Writing Process 🤭
It’s also my Ideal Teaching Style. 🤭
Though, I imagine I have the perfect cappuccino.
When, really?
It’s a cup of coffee- brewed with cinnamon. That! Works too!
My Point?
If you’re looking for Loud, Fast or Harsh?
You’re in the wrong place.
Here’s it’s taking time to savor a cappuccino while learning how to Write and tell your Stories.
It’s bringing you into a Writing Community.
It’s Soft Marketing Techniques.
It’s letting Visuals and Color do some of the heavy lifting for you.
Of course, it’s more.. though, my cappuccino is getting cold- or my cinnamon laced coffee, depending on the place or day.

You Know it… the Sounds of Summer calling You. 🌊
To ancient Rhythms.. to Fresh Air.. Sea Sounds (please swipe through)

Make you want to Write a Sonnet, a Song, a Prayer.
Be Still. Wait for the Words…🌊
It’s calling you. 🌊
This is ‘our Beach’ the beaches of Alabama.
Yes, they’re beautiful, yet there is probably something you might not know.
We called the beaches ‘Sugar Sand’ .. yes, they are almost blindingly white.
Why? This sand is mostly White Quartz..
washed down thru rivers, lakes and creeks from the Appalachian Mountains..
You can almost feel that you have found a beach treasure.
Here? Even living several hours away.. most of us from childhood have felt-
The Pull of the Tides.
The images you see are actual footage and photos of our Alabama Beaches.
The Writer in me wants to Write a Sonnet, a Song or a Prayer.
I know for sure, this beach has come from the Hand of God.

Gardenias are still showing up in my garden! I love it..
though, I think, she’s trying to smother my front porch!
I have a few thoughts …
A Gardenia knows herself.. no one has to tell Gardenia that’s she’s pure refinement, that she’s a favorite for bridal bouquets.. even if she bruises easily!
Gardenia blooms when she gets ready, has deep roots in southern soil or strong storm.
She never seems bothered by those night moths or the buzzy bees and bumblebees 🐝
She sure doesn’t fade or become invisible as she ages!
If anything, her color deepens and her scent gets stronger. Does she think about her gifts and talents? I doubt it. She knows.
She shows up, shares her Gifts and Talents.
You have that same Grit and Grace.
Don’t you dare discount your Worth or dim your Shine.. as my Mimi would say, ‘Dry those tears, stand up straight and keep going on!’
Bless the World with your Brilliance.
Meanwhile, I’ll watch from my front porch. I’ve saved you a seat.

It’s been a while since I’ve introduced myself so, with new faces around here,
‘Hello and Welcome to my.. Fig Tree’ ( 🤭it’s usually the porch)
Yes, I’m a Writer, Gardener, Support and Guide for Creatives,
in their brave and beautiful Second Act. I know the Joys of creativity, yet there’s feelings that come with Change.
Frustrations, even Foggy days and loneliness when you’re trying to Reinvent yourself. Even though, the world may want you to stay the same.
Here, you don’t get a blueprint tossed to you, then I run away.
I help you with the quiet details, nature, a simple routine to clear the fog.
You’ll unpack your Stories in pleasant ways. Why?
