Want a good laugh… was digging out day lillies at a clients… this “frog” went flying in front of me on his back covered in dirt! I screamed at first bc that’s what I do! It was on its back all white showing and not moving at all. But I knew I had to remove it as it was dead and then i saw the sticker eye… and literally couldn’t stop laughing at myself… then I picked it u with my hands and although not real… it sure felt like a frog!!! It was like a bath toy!

Heartbroken!!!

More yellow asters disease and no cure!!!

You have to pull the entire plant otherwise they jump and destroy more! Another bug that I am curious to what purpose it truly holds… except making flowers look cool and fooling a person who has no idea that it’s actually a disease 😭😭

FYI definition-

Aster yellows is a viral-like disease caused by a phytoplasma (formerly called a mycoplasma-like organism). Insects that suck the sap of plants, especially the aster leafhopper, vector the disease. Aster leafhoppers are insects that annually migrate northward from their winter home in areas along the Gulf of Mexico. Aster yellows is a disease that affects over 300 species of plants, including ornamentals such as aster, coneflower, zinnia, marigold, chrysanthemum, petunia, and snapdragon. Edibles affected include lettuce, carrots, tomatoes, and celery. Grasses and grains are also hosts. Weeds that may harbor the disease include plantain, dandelion, and other broad-leafed weeds.

Aster yellows is primarily transmitted by leafhoppers. When a leafhopper feeds on a plant infected with aster yellows it becomes "infected" with the phytoplasma and remains infected throughout its life. The phytoplasma cells multiply and cause infection of the insect’s salivary glands within one to three weeks. When the infected insects feed on healthy plants, they inject the phytoplasma cells into the plant phloem. Susceptible plants will be symptomatic in 10 to 40 days.

The spread of aster yellows is worse in cool, wet summers. Hot dry weather is not favorable for either the phytoplasma or the leafhopper. As with many disease and pest problems, diagnosis is perhaps the most important factor in controlling aster yellows.

Loved working with these amazing ambler clients!!! So happy we did the Belgium blocks at the end! It gave it such a great finished look with still having a good trench in front of it for the crazy water to drain thru… if we ever get any rain!!!

Those ferns and lily of the valley were insane… lily of valley will be back but I hope all the ferns are gone!!

Should have done this the night before…

Macro hydrangeas - older ones bloom on old wood- newer ones bloom on old and new wood. When we get these late frosts green buds you can in the pic typically will get burn and die! Hydrangeas are the divas of flowers for a reason!!

Just one of my many but these are the big ones- I pray the sheets stay on bc you can’t really wrap the bottom bc you’ll break branches so random rocks are holding it down

You may have heard of planting tomatoes on their side. It may sound like a weird thing to do, but here's why it works so well.

Tomato stems are full of parenchyma cells. These non-descript cells are located just below the epidermal layer. One of the coolest things parenchyma cells do is turn into roots, known as adventitious roots

By burying the plant sideways or very deeply in your garden, you’re putting more of the stem underground from the start to enable lots of adventitious root growth. This means your tomato plant now has a much more complex root system, making it easier to take up the water and nutrients needed to make bushel after bushel of tomatoes.
